Assam Emerges as India’s Next Concert Economy Hub with ₹ 700 Crore Growth Potential..
Assam is rapidly transforming into one of India’s most promising live entertainment destinations, with a new report projecting that the state’s concert economy could generate more than ₹700 crore in cumulative economic impact over the next five years.
The report, The Assam Blueprint: Turning Live Music Economy into a Tourism Multiplier, released by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), BookMyShow and EY-Parthenon, highlights how strategic investments, progressive policies and growing audience demand are positioning Assam as a major hub for live entertainment and tourism.
A key case study in the report is Post Malone’s first-ever India solo headline concert in Guwahati, which generated an estimated ₹43 crore economic impact, including ₹32 crore injected directly into Assam’s economy and around ₹5 crore in GST revenue. The event attracted more than 20,000 attendees, with 53 per cent travelling from outside Guwahati and arriving from over 200 cities and towns across India.
The benefits extended far beyond the concert venue. For every ₹100 spent on a ticket, visitors spent approximately ₹899 on hotels, travel, dining, shopping and local services. Hotels reported nearly 30 per cent higher occupancy, restaurants recorded over 33 per cent growth in walk-ins, while local transport services witnessed more than 50 per cent growth in demand during the event weekend.
The report also highlights Assam’s emergence as a fast-growing live entertainment market. In 2025 alone, Assam hosted 55 ticketed events, while Guwahati recorded an impressive 188 per cent surge in live-event attendance, signalling strong audience demand and growing national interest.
The concert also boosted tourism across the state, with visitors exploring destinations such as Kaziranga National Park, Majuli, Kamakhya Temple and Sivasagar, further strengthening Guwahati’s role as the gateway to the Northeast.
Building on this momentum, Guwahati is set to host another landmark international music event on November 17, when the legendary American rock band Guns N’ Roses is scheduled to perform in the city. The concert is expected to draw music enthusiasts from across Northeast India, neighbouring eastern and northern states, and even neighbouring countries, resulting in a significant influx of visitors. Industry observers believe the event could further accelerate Assam’s growing concert economy, boosting tourism, hospitality, transport and local businesses while reinforcing the state’s position as one of India’s emerging live entertainment hubs.

I read through the entire letter written by Hon'ble CM Dr. @himantabiswa to Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji as he approaches the milestone of becoming India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister.
This is a must-read for every Assamese. More than a letter, it is a reflection on how Assam's journey has changed over the last decade.
Here are some key takeaways from my end. 🧵
12 Years. One Mission. Countless Milestones!
A journey powered by purpose, defined by service, and driven by the aspirations of a billion dreams.

12 Years of Seva: PM Modi Becomes India's Longest-Serving Elected Prime Minister
Twelve years ago, on June 9, 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the oath of office, ushering in a governance model centred on Seva — service to citizens. Over the past 12 years, this approach has focused on empowering people, accelerating development and building a stronger, more confident India. Today he has also set the record of being the longest serving Prime Minister of our country holding the office for 4399 days.
The period has witnessed transformative changes across welfare delivery, economic growth, infrastructure, healthcare, women’s empowerment and digital governance. Flagship initiatives such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Ujjwala Yojana, PM Awas Yojana and Jal Jeevan Mission have expanded access to banking, healthcare, clean cooking fuel, housing and drinking water for millions of families. Direct Benefit Transfer has enabled more than ₹50 lakh crore to reach beneficiaries directly, improving transparency and efficiency in welfare delivery.
India’s economy has also undergone significant transformation. Exports have grown from $466 billion in 2013-14 to around $866 billion in 2025-26, while the country has emerged as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem with more than 100 unicorns and over 2.23 lakh recognised startups. Reforms such as GST, PM Gati Shakti, digital governance and compliance reduction have strengthened India’s position as a preferred destination for investment and innovation.
The spirit of Seva has also shaped social development. More than 25 crore people have moved out of multidimensional poverty, women-owned MSMEs have crossed 3 crore registrations and healthcare access has expanded through large-scale public programmes. At the same time, India has emerged as a global leader in digital payments, renewable energy and technological innovation.
Environmental sustainability has remained a key priority. Solar power capacity has increased from 2.82 GW in 2014 to 150 GW in 2026, while initiatives such as Mission LiFE, PM Surya Ghar, clean mobility and large-scale afforestation have reinforced India's commitment to green growth.
As India moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the journey of the past 12 years reflects a continued commitment to inclusive development, citizen empowerment and national progress.
From Garib Kalyan and Nari Shakti to innovation, infrastructure and sustainability, the story of the last 12 years is one of transformation driven by service, participation and the aspiration of 140 crore Indians.

Assam Couple Turns Passion into Global Terracotta Brand Despite Life’s Biggest Challenges
A young couple from Assam’s Jorhat is inspiring entrepreneurs across the Northeast by transforming a small passion project into a thriving terracotta business that now reaches customers around the world.
Pratyasha Bora founded Mrittika in 2018 after discovering her love for terracotta art. What began with just one kilogram of clay and self-learning through online tutorials has grown into a successful enterprise creating handmade jewellery and decorative products inspired by Assamese culture.
The journey, however, was far from easy. In 2023, Pratyasha’s husband and business partner Raj Bora lost a leg in a severe accident, bringing their growing venture to a standstill for nearly a year. Rather than giving up, the couple rebuilt their business with renewed determination.
Today, Mrittika employs five people, including women artisans, and ships its handcrafted products across India and overseas to countries such as the United Kingdom, Poland and Mexico. Traditional Assamese motifs like Kingkhap and Lokaparo have become among their most sought-after designs.
Beyond business, the couple also conducts workshops and training programmes for students and aspiring artisans, helping preserve traditional crafts while encouraging entrepreneurship.
Raj, who now competes in national-level powerlifting events with an artificial limb, says their success is the answer to everyone who doubted them. Together, the couple hopes to create more opportunities for women and inspire others to follow their dreams.
Their journey proves that determination, creativity and resilience can turn even the toughest setbacks into a story of success.
From one kilogram of clay to a globally recognised brand, Assam’s Mrittika is shaping a future where passion becomes purpose and challenges become opportunities.

Assam’s Women Lead Historic Green Revolution with Record 1.02 Crore Saplings Planted in a Single Day
Assam has scripted a remarkable environmental success story, with people across the state planting more than 1.02 crore saplings in just over eight hours, setting a new benchmark in community-led afforestation and showcasing the power of collective action.
The historic achievement was driven largely by Assam’s women, with lakhs of members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and local communities leading the plantation campaign. The initiative has emerged as one of the largest people-powered greening efforts in the country and highlights the growing role of women in shaping Assam’s sustainable future.
The record-breaking plantation drive forms part of the state's larger environmental vision aimed at increasing green cover, strengthening climate resilience and promoting community participation in conservation. The achievement also reflects the success of Assam’s "tree economy" model, which encourages citizens not only to plant saplings but also to nurture and protect them for long-term environmental and economic benefits.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister @himantabiswa, Assam has witnessed a series of large-scale afforestation campaigns since 2023. The state launched the Amrit Brikshya Andolan with the goal of creating a mass environmental movement, mobilising more than 35 lakh women and citizens to participate in plantation activities. What began as a bold initiative has now evolved into a statewide movement involving crores of saplings and widespread public participation.
The planting of 1.02 crore saplings in a single day is more than a record. It represents a shared commitment by the people of Assam to protect the environment and leave behind a greener legacy for future generations. The campaign has brought together women, youth, students, farmers, community organisations and government agencies under a common goal.
The achievement also reinforces Assam’s position as a state that is combining environmental stewardship with community empowerment. By placing women at the centre of the movement, the initiative has demonstrated how grassroots participation can drive meaningful and lasting change.

With a renewed commitment to fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people of Assam, under the leadership of Hon’ble CM Dr. @himantabiswa dangoriya, I am deeply honoured to once again take the oath as a Cabinet Minister of the Government of Assam before Hon’ble Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya ji.
On this special occasion, I express my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji, Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji, Hon’ble BJP National President Shri Nitin Nabin ji, Hon’ble CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma dangoriya, Hon'ble BJP State President Shri Dilip Saikia dangoriya and the entire party leadership for once again reposing their faith in me. I also extend my sincere gratitude to the dedicated BJP karyakartas, the people of Nalbari and the people of Assam for their unwavering trust, support and blessings.

Blessed with rich forests, vibrant rivers and extraordinary biodiversity, we have a shared responsibility to protect the natural heritage entrusted to us.
This year’s World Environment Day theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” reminds us that the solutions to many of our environmental challenges lie in learning from and living in harmony with nature.
On World Environment Day, let us draw inspiration from nature and reaffirm our commitment to building a greener, cleaner and more sustainable future for generations to come.

The tragic incident in Nalbari has once again highlighted a disturbing trend that society cannot afford to ignore.
'Love Jihad' is a chronic social challenge that is slowly spreading its roots in Assam. As a society, we must remain alert, aware and united against any attempt to exploit, deceive or target our daughters and disrupt social harmony.
I appreciate the swift and decisive action taken by Assam Police in the Nalbari case. Their prompt response sends a clear message that those who commit such crimes will not escape the law.
Let me assure the people of Assam that under the leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Dr. @himantabiswa, there will be absolutely no compromise in cases involving crimes against women, organised deception, or incidents that threaten the peace and harmony of our society.
Justice will be delivered. The guilty will be punished. And Assam will continue to stand firmly for the safety, dignity and security of its people.
This achievement was not built overnight. Since assuming charge as Assam’s Health Minister in 2006, Dr. @himantabiswa undertook far reaching structural reforms that transformed the state’s healthcare landscape.
From just 3 medical colleges then to 14 today and 10 in pipeline, Assam has significantly expanded access to quality healthcare. Because of that the results are visible on the ground as mentioned by HCM that 87.6% of births take place in healthcare institutions and over 90% are attended by skilled health personnel. His vision of establishing medical colleges across all districts will further ensure quality healthcare reaches even the remotest corners of Assam.

Assam’s Sarthebari Artisans Strengthen India-Bhutan Friendship Through Timeless Craftsmanship
In a remarkable example of how culture connects nations, the skilled artisans of Assam’s Sarthebari continue to play a unique role in strengthening the enduring friendship between India and Bhutan through their centuries-old metalcraft tradition.
Known across the country for its bell metal craftsmanship, Assam’s Sarthebari has become an important cultural bridge between the two neighbouring nations. Artisans in the town handcraft sacred Bhutanese cymbals that are widely used in religious rituals and spiritual ceremonies across Bhutan.
These finely crafted instruments are more than just traditional products. They represent a shared cultural heritage and a deep civilisational bond that has connected the people of India and Bhutan for generations. Each cymbal reflects the dedication, skill and artistry passed down through families of craftsmen who have preserved this unique tradition over centuries.
The continued demand for these handcrafted ritual instruments highlights the trust and cultural respect that exist between the two countries. It also showcases how local artisans from Assam are contributing to international cultural ties while preserving an important part of the region’s heritage.
Beyond strengthening diplomatic and cultural relations, the craft supports livelihoods and helps sustain traditional industries in Assam. It serves as a powerful reminder that local craftsmanship can have a global impact when rooted in quality, authenticity and cultural significance.
As India and Bhutan continue to deepen their partnership, the contribution of Assam’s Sarthebari artisans stands out as a symbol of people-to-people connection built through tradition, respect and shared values.

Like millions of Indians across the country, I tuned in to the 134th episode of #MannKiBaat with great enthusiasm.
Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji once again brought forth inspiring stories of achievement, heritage, and national pride. Particularly heartening was the mention of the return of the ancient Chola-era copper plates from the Netherlands, a moment that fills every Indian with immense pride and reminds us of our rich civilisational legacy.
Equally inspiring were the remarkable achievements of our athletes, whose dedication continues to elevate India's standing on the global stage.
