On this day in 2022, the Grizzlies traded the 22nd and 29th pick for the 19th pick which they used to draft Jake LaRavia out of Wake Forest University.
The Grizzlies also traded De’Anthony Melton to the Philadelphia 76ers for Danny Green and the 23rd pick which they used to draft David Roddy out of Colorado State University.
The Grizzlies also traded a 2024 second round pick to the San Antonio Spurs for the 38th pick which they used to select Kennedy Chandler.
Finally, the Grizzlies used the 47th pick to draft Vince Williams Jr. out of Virginia Commonwealth University.
@jtoll17@SainAsylum Sorry, I suggested Porter would leave for Randle. They sent Claxton. I was miles off base on the idea of the nets wanting him, I suppose
@SainAsylum I’m going Darko, Thabeet then Bennett purely bc of what went immediately after. The best player and first great player in Bennett’s draft was Giannis at 15. Darko had 3 HOFers taken immediately after him. Thabeet had Harden/Steph too
@jtoll17@SainAsylum Randle has shown to be a winner everywhere he has been. A young team having a guy who can set a winning culture and be of trade value at the deadline plus a free pick. Could argue they get the first out of it but Memphis took on Braun’s contact for Denver in this idea
@chriman_ Homer in me says grab Meleek Thomas in the late 20s. May take another year of development but I could see him being a rotational wing and a very good one if things go right for him in development
@BrandonLasowski to know they were obstructed until I got in since it wasn’t listed on the ticket… just “you scanned into the game the tickets were used” over and over. Credit card took care of it the next day
@BrandonLasowski Always use a credit card. Bought tickets to a major CFB game last year. View was obstructed when I got there - not listed in tickets. Stubhub refused to refund or love my seats (called before game started) bc I scanned into the stadium. They couldn’t explain how I was supposed
@parkervb901@MemphisX_NBA It’s certainly not that simple, but Twitter fans lean in favor of favoring one strategy more heavily over the other. The idea that ZK is some master draft wizard so taking on an All NBA player to pair with Ced, Edey and Boozer is bad kind of displays that
@parkervb901@MemphisX_NBA In my opinion, it’s less to do with a hypothetical Brown trade and more to do with 2 different philosophies. The part of the fan base that thinks Kleiman will draft his way to a title by 2040 and the part that thinks Grizz never get their without swinging for a star
@StatsSAC@chriman_ And that’s perfectly fine but I also don’t think Brown will be a negative asset in 2 seasons where it’s impossible to get any value back
@chriman_@StatsSAC In the same breath we are arguing that nearly 32 year old Giannis who just missed most of a season is worth more than Ja, Santi and a bunch of pick while arguing if it doesn’t work a 32 year or Brown would be worthless for Memphis to trade off of. Lol
@StatsSAC@chriman_ Then they get to keep their star player who doesn’t want to be there? (Who is also turning 32 this season which is ironically the same season Brown will be worthless)
@chriman_@StatsSAC Which is my a big part of mypoint. If none of Ced, Edey or Boozer can be the guy or an all star/NBA guy - “this” rebuild is going to be long anyway
@StatsSAC@chriman_ I think plenty of teams are better for Brown and better with him. But speaking in terms of Memphis, not going for an All NBA talent to hoard top 5 protected draft picks is wild
@StatsSAC@chriman_ If the price is Lakers and Jazz picks next year - it’s a no brainer. You have to spend the cap $$ and you will know in the next 2 seasons if any of Boozer/Edey/Ced are that guy. If not, you trade brown as an expiring and have King’s 3rd rebuild under way anyway
