### PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT ###
On Wednesday I passed my PhD viva with minor corrections!!! 🍾
It's been a long old journey to get here and thanks to everyone who has supported me over the years 😄.
On Tuesday 4 November, @SueSep5 Prof Sue Page, accompanied by her family, attended an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. She received her MBE from the King.
Sue extends her heartfelt thanks to everyone who has made her peatland research journey so inspiring and enjoyable.
With a pop, bang, and fizzle, the sound of fireworks can be heard around the UK on #BonfireNight.
The sound of fireworks are also "heard" by our seismometers in @SEIS_UK, recording each firework as a short sharp spike in ground motion on the seismogram.

One week to go for the national demonstration called by @ucu against the planned redundancies at the University of Leicester.
Please come and march alongside us in Leicester on 12 November.
All welcome!

The ground vibrations caused by Lady Gaga's concert yesterday in Barcelona, recorded by an accelerometer from @ICGCat located 500 meters from the concert venue. The different songs can be identified by their frequency. Data processed at @GEO3BCN_CSIC
I think we had another #earthquake somewhere in Scotland a few minutes ago, probably close to the area of the M3.6 (updated from 3.3) earlier this morning.
Also a possible aftershock that rapidly followed it.

This morning's (2025-10-20) M3.3 Western Perth and Kinross, Scotland #earthquake recorded in the country & #Stornoway + historical seismicity.
Locally felt in Bridge of Orchy and Tyndrum as a "prolonged rumble".

At 9 AM on a Saturday, hundreds of runners gather to Leicester Victoria Park for @parkrunUK .
The start kicks off a seismic swarm of runners, releasing energy with every step. This creates a peak in ground displacement in our seismometers every Saturday morning.

I’m happy to announce that a brand new episode of Map Men, the first one in more than a year, (a proper horizontal one that goes on for at least ten minutes) is coming to YouTube at exactly tea time on Monday 15th September.
Between May 2022 and Dec 2023, 35 of our seismometers were deployed across Zambia as part of the CuBES project.
Utilising shear-wave splitting, researchers were able to constrain lithospheric features from the Precambrian to Phanerozoic across the region.

A seismic section showing the #earthquake's travel time across the Earth is shown below, with the earthquake's location and the presented seismometers plotted on the map.
This was a significant earthquake, with seismometers on the other side of the globe detecting seismic motion.
A M7.5 #earthquake occurred within the Drake Passage (between South America and Antarctica) at 02:16:19 (UTC), detect on my @raspishake seismometer in Leicester, UK.
The earthquake was a strike slip earthquake, meaning a tsunami is highly unlikely.
