With today's tech, simple, sensible policies, centralized governance can be very uniform and efficient (think UPI, nationwide mobile plan). Learn what can be sensibly adopted vs. rejecting (roads, dogs, divorce... west manges better)

@sekar_vembu With current technology, an efficient centralized system that delivers uniform services across India is possible. Local or state (provincial) decentralization is inefficient, leads to undesired politics (e.g. Cauvery issue), corruption and non-uniform policies and all problems.

@svembu Universal basic income in terms of bags of rice for each household was the traditional Indian model. Bring that back and you'll see a lot more entrepreneurial and innovative ideas from youth that make a difference. Right now only rich kids can afford doing that.

@sgurumurthy This is mixing up things. Good parenting is important and the west does it well. Family vs Individual is different. India overburdens the earner, esp male, to take care of all, causing stress, inconsistency and crimes. The west taxes earners and takes care of all across families.

@sgurumurthy In simple terms, US is just pooling 12% of all the sons/daughters income and redistributing a minimum amount to all parents/seniors to keep them off streets and hunger. It brings equality, makes seniors independent and they spend the money vs save to death. India should learn.

@jaypanicker Your immig officer doesn't even adjust the stamp to show the right month. They cross and put another right stamp when I pointed it is Aug vs Jul. Maybe wrong stamps were made out whole month until I pointed out! This happens despite your sincerity. Make them pay attn to detail.

@sekar_vembu JEE was opaque in the 1980s when students would just get a y/n, with no score or appeal. No Soros types then, so nothing ever snowballed as now. India hospitals are family business so wards will get doc job with poor/ fake degrees. With 70% reservation perhaps no model matters!

@PiyushGoyal @narendramodi Every court case must have a timeline that is acceptably and sensibly fast enough. You could prioritize this type of cases within that system vs separate fast track. Otherwise it doesn't come out as good faith effort, but as one-off effort.

@MVhandle Nice points but you could ask more fundamental system questions- does it even matter when reservation system locks 70% to non-merit? State quotas lock out pan-India merit? Isolate teachers setting the questions for 3-4 months with no ph/email. Rest of the chain can be regulated.
