Johnny Depp reportedly believed he was taking a normal sip of water during filming, but the prop crew had secretly replaced it with a real shot of alcohol. The moment he tasted it, his priceless reaction instantly exposed the prank. What made the moment so hilarious was how naturally Depp responded, clearly realizing something wasn’t right. There was no scripted dialogue or rehearsed expression, just genuine surprise caught on camera. It’s a perfect example of how an unexpected behind-the-scenes prank can create a moment even funnier than anything written in the script.

Recently, we managed a child who presented with red currant jelly stools. The child had been treated for dysentery at other medical facilities without any imaging.
The child was later referred to UCSI Hospital for further management. Abdominal radiography and ultrasound confirmed the diagnosis of intussusception. Three attempts at ultrasound-guided saline reduction were unsuccessful because the intussusceptum was very tight and congested. The child therefore underwent urgent surgery, during which the intussusception was successfully reduced. The bowel appeared congested but viable after being wrapped in warmed packs for 10 minutes. Bowel resection and stoma formation were avoided.
Lessons learned
1. Red currant jelly stools are a late sign of intussusception and require urgent medical attention and prompt treatment.
2. Per rectal bleeding in a child should never be dismissed without further imaging or investigation. Delay in presentation can lead to gangrenous, non-viable bowel.
3. Good referral pathways are essential so that a child can be promptly referred and transferred to a centre with a paediatric surgeon.
4. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, prompt action is required. This relies on excellent teamwork among the radiologist, nursing team, OT team, and anaesthetist to avoid morbidity.
We thank Professor Dr. Yik Yee Ian, Resident Paediatric Surgeon at UCSI Hospital, and his entire team for a job well done in saving this child’s life.
This is the only FDA approved procedure for permanent hair removal.
Electrolysis sends a tiny electric current into the hair root. A fine probe slides into the pore and the current destroys the cells that grow the hair. Once those cells are gone, that hair cannot grow back.
Most people feel a short sting or hot pinch with each hair. It is uncomfortable, but not usually very painful. The upper lip and other sensitive spots hurt more. A numbing cream can ease it.
The loose hair is then pulled out with tweezers. This step is called epilation. After the current, the hair slides out with little extra pain.
It works on all hair colors and skin tones. Only growing hairs can be treated, so several sessions are needed. A trained specialist does the work. Fully treated hairs stay gone for good.
