En visioconférence avec nos partenaires nordiques et baltes, le Danemark, l’Estonie, la Finlande, l’Islande, la Lettonie, la Lituanie, la Norvège, la Suède, j’ai rappelé la solidarité et l’engagement constant de la France à leurs côtés.

La Russie est en situation d’échec en Ukraine. Cela montre que ses prétentions territoriales et stratégiques sont vaines. Elle s’obstine pourtant à provoquer ses voisins pour tenter de sortir de l'impasse.

Nous ferons face, ensemble.

Notre engagement se manifeste notamment par la présence militaire de la France en Estonie et en Roumanie, sa contribution à la mission de surveillance aérienne de l’OTAN dans les pays baltes, mais aussi les échanges, accords et partenariats bilatéraux de la France avec les pays de la région.

Il se manifeste aussi par notre soutien pérenne à l'Ukraine, dans tous les domaines - pour qu'elle résiste, prévale, et négocie en position de force, avec l'appui des Européens.

La France est au rendez-vous. Nos partenaires et Alliés peuvent compter sur nous.

La Suède a fait le choix de la frégate de défense et d'intervention de Naval Group pour moderniser sa marine.

Je remercie la Suède et je mesure la confiance faite à la France.

Après le choix fait par la France de se doter du Global Eye de Saab pour renouveler sa flotte d'avions radar Awacs, c'est une décision stratégique majeure, qui traduit la confiance mutuelle entre nos deux pays.

Notre partenariat n’a en effet cessé de se renforcer ces dernières années jusqu’à la participation de la Suède à la dissuasion avancée.

Une Europe forte et souveraine au sein de l'OTAN : voilà notre conception de notre défense et de notre sécurité commune. Elle se bâtit chaque jour.

For the second time since the restoration of our independence, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden has come to Ukraine. A government delegation also accompanied him. I thank His Majesty for his visit and for supporting our people. Sweden is among the five largest donors in terms of support for our Armed Forces and our citizens. This is very important for our defense and resilience.

Support for Ukraine and possibilities for strengthening the Air Force of Ukraine, including with Gripen aircraft, were among the key topics of the talks. We also discussed continued humanitarian support and energy assistance.

Particular attention was paid to defense cooperation. Ukraine is interested in a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership that will strengthen the defense capabilities of both Ukraine and Sweden. I informed the King about Ukraine’s security agreements with countries in the Middle East and the Gulf region, as well as European countries. We are ready to share our experience and technologies with Sweden and to expand cooperation in the defense industry.

The Nordic and Baltic countries are a major driving force of support for our people. Representatives from all these countries were with us yesterday in Kyiv, on the fourth anniversary of the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Over all these years, NB8 has been standing with us through annual assistance programmes and various forms of defence, energy, political, and humanitarian support. They are one of the strongest partners and true friends of Ukraine.

Thank you for your support through concrete assistance packages that enable us to protect lives and strengthen our energy resilience. This includes more than $1.5 billion in military assistance from Sweden, $1.2 billion from Norway for joint drone production, contributions to PURL from Norway, Sweden, Latvia, and Estonia, weapons and investments through SAFE from Lithuania, and energy support from Finland, Denmark, and Iceland.

Every such contribution makes all of us in Europe stronger. Energy packages help our people endure, while defense packages help us hold Moscow’s feet to the fire, because only real pressure will help end this war with dignity. We deeply value the commitment of each NB8 country and this sincere support for our people.

I just took part in a digital meeting hosted by Prime Minister Starmer and President Macron with the Coalition of the Willing – the group of countries most actively supporting Ukraine against Russia’s aggression.

Sweden is one of the leading providers of support to Ukraine in the entire world and plays an important role in this coalition of donor nations.

The focus of the meeting was on the prospects for peace negotiations, continued support for Ukraine, and the need to increase pressure where it belongs – on Putin.

I also had the opportunity to share Wednesday’s news about a potential major export deal from Sweden to Ukraine involving as many as 100–150 Gripen fighter jets. This is crucial not only for Ukraine, but also for Swedish and European security.

I am proud to have welcomed President Zelenskyy to Sweden and Linköping.

Today we have signed an important Letter of Intent, marking a step towards a massive possible export deal regarding Gripen - likely between 100 and 150 fighter jets, to build a new and very strong Ukrainian Air Force.

President Zelensky also got a chance to see first hand the impressive capabilities of the Gripen fighter. This will strengthen both Ukraine, Sweden and Europe.
