Nolan almost completely got rid of Odysseus' charm, wit, trickery, mischief, and cunning. Aside from the parts with Circe and in Ithaca it didn't feel like i was watching Odysseus at all. Like anybody else could take his place. Wdym he cut Odysseus saying his name was "nobody"???

Homer never punished Odysseus for the horse, he celebrated it, cunning was the whole point, gods included. Nolan completely flips that, making it his hero’s greatest sin, not because Troy lost, but because Odysseus weaponized the very concept of a gift, the symbol of trust itself, to commit mass slaughter.

Honestly though, I think that’s Nolan imposing modern guilt onto a man who was never built to feel any, and it kind of misses what made Odysseus Odysseus in the first place.

watched the odyssey a couple days ago and found it to be a fab and engaging spectacle with plenty of wonderful performances (anne and himesh my mvps) but there was just something indefinable missing that kept it from being a great movie. i couldn't name it! and yet it was there
