Very pleased to share that I’ve passed my PhD viva. Many people to thank for getting me here but foremost among them my supervisors @RachelAldred Tom Cohen, @jamiewfurlong and @andrewsmithwest I could not have asked for more supportive and knowledgeable colleagues!
Many congratulations to @active_ata researcher @asathomas who passed his PhD viva with flying colours this week! Asa's also published his School Streets research at https://t.co/AD7APiS98h & https://t.co/kUwgNdvqCc. And many thanks to examiners @alisonstenning & @papa_enrica :)
@GiulioFerrini Such a good example! I’ve been using it as a School Street case study for a while, just as reminder that closures don’t always need to be temporary/camera enforced.
A thread with a few of the highlights from a year of @Active_ATA colleagues' activity :) First up, the paper led by @asathomas with me & @jamiewfurlong on 'Equity in temporary street closures: The case of London’s Covid-19 School Streets schemes' - https://t.co/upFRXazj7B (1/15)
Announcing the #2023TPM Call for Papers! Submit your abstract on a wide range of topics and join us for the Transport Planning Event of the summer 28 - 29 June 2023 in London. More information: https://t.co/kSGvWh9TxG
@alisonstenning @Jen_Sustrans I actually took a very quick look at this for London using NTS data a while ago and it generally is more women do the school run (no surprise) but when men do it they’re more likely to drive. So there is definitely something to this.
@alisonstenning Maybe not *exactly* what you’re after but this is really good on the time pressures associated with managing work/school run and impact on mobility. https://t.co/7L6DcHo644
Very glad to say that @jamiewfurlong and @RachelAldred and I have a new paper out that assesses whether the distribution of School Streets in London is equitable. Our approach considers deprivation and ethnicity as well as air quality and car dominance. https://t.co/Tg1qvFQ62b
Many thanks to colleagues at @sustrans and @MumsForLungs for keeping track of all the School Streets in the city so this kind of analysis is possible. As well as @Active_ATA and @CrossRiverPship for supporting the research.
By ameliorating air pollution and supporting children and carers’ active mobilities, School Streets can reduce existing transport and health inequities. But they'll do so much better if they they are fairly distributed.
