1/3 . "The $250 billion a year is a cruel condemnation to death for the world's vulnerable peoples." @GerryArances_ for @CEEDphilippines reacting to the new @COP29_AZ Presidency text for the New Collective Quantified Goal on #ClimateFinance (#NCQG) out today at #COP29.
#COP29: The latest draft climate finance goal text dropped this afternoon, and to say that it is an insult to climate-vulnerable nations is an understatement.
CEED Executive Director @GerryArances_ gives our take:
CEED joins the many voices pushing for action to "Make #PeaceWithNature" at #COP16Colombia -
we turn the spotlight on threats confronted by biodiversity, especially in the #CoralTriangle and #VerdeIslandPassage, from continued fossil fuel expansion. Keep posted for more updates!
Despite its rich potential for renewables, the Philippines is placing its people, biodiversity, and energy transition at risk with massive plans for gas and LNG. Read more in this story. #WorldOceansDay#SayNoToLNG#ProtectVIP

A fisherman from Batangas, a province south of the Philippine capital, flew thousands of miles away from home on his own to personally call on European banks to divest from environmentally destructive fossil fuel projects in his country.
"I inherited the livelihood that sustained my father, grandfather, & generations before them. My boat is my second home. But I may lose it all – in part to Japan’s dangerous investments in fossil gas."

The upcoming trilateral between the PH and fossil champion Japan, alongside US, will be a test for our government's commitment to the energy transition. The Philippines must say no to fossil fuels, and Japan should stop forcing dirty energy on us. #SayonaraFossilFuels#ProtectVIP
President Marcos entered office with a pledge to make renewable energy his climate agenda. But with a fossil-friendly policy direction, backed by dirty energy champions like 🇯🇵, we're instead embracing gas and fossil fuels in a rapidly warming world. READ: https://t.co/KPFY0yV7MG
🇯🇵 Japanese-financed fossil fuel projects have left a legacy of harm on communities and ecosystems – including the globally significant Verde Island Passage in the Philippines. 💰👎
Japan 🇯🇵 is fueling a gas buildout in Southeast Asia - throwing the 1.5°C goal down the drain, exposing us to volatile energy prices, and harming communities and biodiversity.
SEA needs 100% renewables, 🚫NOT gas🔥!

As #COP28 nears its closing, Fr. Edwin Gariguez, lead convenor of Protect VIP, appeals to the Philippine government to make a clear stance on phasing out fossil fuels following the latest iteration of Global Stocktake text that refuses to abolish fossil fuels.
The #COP28#GlobalStocktake text was gaveled through without any comments allowed from Parties. The text is severely lacking in assurances for climate finance, and equity - indications that developed countries must take the lead - is almost entirely missing.
#COP28 GST adopted within minuted of the plenary starting. No space for country interventions, despite massive disappointment over latest text - no fossil phaseout, not enough to deliver 1.5°C.
