Code reviews are a powerful way to improve code quality.
But sometimes a code review is too late. Sometimes a code review exposes code that shouldn’t have been written at all.
So, it’s useful to consider what to build and how to build it *first*, as a team.
Then we’re ready to iterate.
@AndricoKaroulla Have you looked into Stripe payment links? You don't need to build anything to use them :) Just create a link and share it or embed it. Or try their hosted checkout if you have access to a backend.
I've only ever used Stripe, so I'm not sure what else is out there!
@housecor The story ends with that code becoming extremely pervasive and a big source of coupling and technical debt. Lots of lessons learned on that one
@housecor I over-engineered all the time in my early career, and I can even think of some more recent pieces of work that would probably qualify too.
A few years ago, I created some abstractions over our database access that I encouraged my team to use.
@housecor I got "called in" for that code - not for so much for over-engineering, but for making unilateral decisions. We were a young and inexperienced team. In retrospect, I should have asked for feedback about my idea, and it should not have made it past the "lets talk about it" phase.
@engineerbrenda@loujaybee Wow, very inspiring! What field was she in prior to starting in tech? I've worked with bootcampers that have moved from sales and support roles, even teachers and baristas. I often wonder if I'd have had the courage to change career had I not done the traditional CompSci thing
There have been some tweets asking for useless websites. So here's the one I've been working on 😛

It's dumb, and new, and surely has some bugs! But I'm sure you'll (especially 90s/00s kids) will have a laugh! #webdev#css#javascript
@AndricoKaroulla Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself. Basically, it's made up of two separate words — "mank" and "ind." What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

In @nextjs query parameters can be undefined on initial render! My assumption that "this value should be defined!!?" had me blocked for an embarrassingly long time🤦♀️
Developer experience seems to be the name of the game at @vercel, and their acquisition of @turborepo demonstrates this. I'm fast turning into a fanboy 🙌
