Any trade can turn out to be a loser no matter how large your edge is.
Welcome to uncertainty.
If that doesn't make you profoundly humble, then nothing will.
And if you have no humility, I don't see how you can do well as a trader.
Trading fails are just part of life as a trader. We cannot possibly know what or where markets will head with even a remote degree of certainty.
Trading requires not only accepting failure, but having a better relationship with it.
As Tom says, ‘Best Loser Wins’.
@Kartik10081 Practice meditation min 2hrs daily for next 6 months. You will notice mind pattern changes over the time.
Your issue is mind issue. Only solution is meditation
If you feel anxious or frustrated while trading, it's a sign that your attitudes & beliefs are out of alignment with the market. It's an indication of how much you need to change & grow. Don't suppress & deny them; embrace and accept them as your starting point for development.
When you release your attachment to money and being right - and choose to focus on the process instead of short-term results - that detachment from money/profits, ironically, will end up bringing you more of it down the road.
Becoming a more objective observer of yourself & the market certainly has psychological benefits. But it also offers significant tactical benefits. Once you transcend your old impulsive & irrational self, you have a better understanding of the feelings & behaviors of the masses.
Even though we crave certainty & control, every single trade we take is an event with an uncertain outcome.
Because of this, it’s critical to have structure in place for protection (rules/plans/systems). This dictates our behavior in both favorable & unfavorable circumstances.
In everyday life, we’re used to having control over our environment. If we don’t like the temperature, we adjust the thermostat. If we’re bored, we pick up the phone or turn on the television. But markets don’t fulfill our desires so easily. In fact, we have no control over them.
When I use to obsess whether we were in a bull phase or bear phase, I generally would not make money. When I didn’t really give a damn, I would make a lot of money.
The job of a trader is not to be an analyst, or market commentator, it’s to make money, whatever the weather.
How often do you have ideas for trades but then think ‘what happens if it doesn’t work?’ and then it works and you miss it.
Instead, try asking yourself ‘what if it works and I miss it?’
The ideas is to counterbalance your natural risk aversion and reduce missed opportunities.
Good strategy & tactics (outer game) but without a Strong Mindset (inner game) won’t succeed.
Strong Mindset (inner game) without good strategy & tactics (outer game) also won’t succeed.
Good strategy & tactics (outer game) and Strong Mindset (inner game) should smash it.
Don’t just work on the ‘Outer Game’ a strong Trading ‘Inner Game’ doesn’t happen by itself.
Trading is an on-going one-sided battle between You and Your Ego
If your ego wins, then you lose
But, if you win, victory is temporary at best
Your Process is your best defence
You can’t fully beat your ego, but having a robust process and adhering to it keeps it constrained
After a loss, traders often get scared or try to get back to break even. Both mental states lead to bad trading quickly.
After a win, many traders get over-confident and trade loosely.
Be aware of how you react to recent results.
