¹ Thanks to the work of @bandlersbanter, @AshleyRindsberg, @EllaTravelsLove and @shlomitlir, there's growing awareness of coordinated ideological takeover of Wikipedia's Israel/Palestine coverage after Oct. 7
So I decided to measure its extent and the results are extraordinary🧵
This is inversion so callous it's hard to believe.
The Holocaust had a survival rate of about 30%. Millions of people disappeared from European cities and towns over several years. Everybody knew because it was happening all around them.
Gaza has a survival rate, despite the worst and most deadly and horrible periods of the war, of 97%.
All the dead Jews were noncombatants. A large percentage of the dead Gazans were combatants.
And the Jews of Europe, even as their millennia-old civilization was being systematically wiped out, wanted nothing from the societies that surrounded them except to be allowed to live in peace.
Gaza's leadership of religious fanatics, meanwhile, wants every last Israeli dead and gone, is willing to fight to the last Gazan to achieve that aim, has said so publicly and worked for decades to blow up every peace attempt -- and even now believes that Gaza's destruction would be a worthwhile sacrifice to lay on the altar of Israel's destruction, because their god told them so.
So Israelis can reasonably believe, given those features of the Gaza war that aren't true about any genocide ever, and were pretty much the opposite of what was happening in the Holocaust, that Gaza's suffering is a bad and painful war, but not remotely a genocide.
But the point of it all, of course, is not to analyze Gaza, but specifically to lump it together with the Holocaust -- to cast the Jews as the new Nazis.
The only reason this person would dare to make such an insanely ahistorical and immoral parallel is because this is the heart of the bigoted propaganda campaign in which he enthusiastically participates: The point of it all is to make the Jews into the Nazis.
A culture that obsessed about Jews being evil and was then shocked by the Holocaust into obsessing about dead Jews as the apotheosis of righteous victimhood is now obsessively engaged in knocking Jews off that moral pedestal they themselves put them on.
That's why they don't care one whit about Hamas massacres of Gazans, about genocidal wars in Syria or Yemen (even when they've funded and armed the sides), about flotilla activists currently held by the Libyans...literally nothing triggers a response except Jews.
They still, even after all these generations, no matter what else is happening in the world or in their own societies, can't stop thinking about Jews.
And as we Jews learned in the 1940s -- the actual, historical 1940s, not the weird fantasies conjured up by these bigots -- a whole society can be in the grip of a callous, destructive bigotry and still believe it is true and righteous.
His tattoo didn't say "I disagree with the policies of Israel".
It was a fucking Nazi tattoo. An SS tattoo. Symbolising the murder of millions of people.
Nazis are bad regardless of what you think about Israel.
Fucking idiots.

"Did Platner know it was a Totenkopf? And, if yes, did he therefore lie in 2025 when he said he had no idea?"
Most surely: Yes & yes.
Apparently there was a whole thing re: Marine Scout/Snipers ("SS") getting SS (Nazi Tattoos). This story broke in 2012. It was a military scandal.
Then, in June, 2020, Platner got in a long debate on reddit about Marines and SS insignia, related to the previous scandal. This is all publicly accessible.
Others on the same reddit thread, including at least one self-identified Marine, argued whether or not SS insignia is bad and/or, within the Marine Corps, signals Nazi ideology. The Marine who argued YES, it does signal Naziism, wrote:
"The US Marine Corps DOES NOT TOLERATE NAZI SYMBOLISM... The Commandant of the Marine Corps gave orders to stop it, issued an apology, and ordered an investigation."
Separately, Platner, who had a Totenkopf on his chest, argued the opposite, while invoking Black Marines.
Specifically, a user named SP4CEM4N_SPIFF wrote "I remember this being exposed nearly a decade ago. It's like people claiming the confederate flag isn't about hate," to which Platner replied: "I will be sure to inform the black guys I know with bolts that they're Nazis now and not USMC Scout/Snipers."
Here, Platner is directly making the connection between SS tattoos & their intentional use by U.S. Marines (which was previously a scandal), while also doing kind of a "Black person human shield" thing. Note, again, others in the thread are really disgusted by the use of SS insignia & support the military taking strict action.
The original thread was about Zachary Sanns, a former Marine who was arrested for impersonating a federal officer at a Las Vegas BLM protest while armed and bearing SS tattoos.
Platner was not Scout/Snipers. He was a machine-gun operator. With a Totenkopf. And he recently told everyone, including those in the Democratic Party who support him, that he had no idea what the symbol meant.
I think the most galling thing, for me, to read, is that Platner argues with the guy who says "it's like saying the Confederate Flag isn't about hate."
It's galling because the guy with the confederate flag comment is right. It's also galling because now we know, for sure, in 2026, that Platner has been through this whole conversation--does your Nazi tattoo mean you're a Nazi?--before. And he's acting completely ignorant of it.

the Turks killed 10x more Armenians in a single 5 year stretch than Israel has killed Arabs in the last 100 years in every single war/conflict combined lol
@long_roadhome@Exanimo99@trumpvance33@elimiddleman@reesetheone1 I think anyone who ever had a Nazi symbol tattooed on their body should not be elected to political office. How is that controversial?
If he has the right politician then find someone with his same politics who never tattooed a Nazi symbol onto themselves.
@EnglarBrian@mattyglesias So why not find someone with the exact same politics to run who never tattooed a prominent nazi death camp symbol on his body
“Yes, it hurts, of course, it hurts. But God has chosen Ethan for a reason. God is doing something, and we're gonna glorify his name regardless…If I knew this could be the outcome, I still wouldn't have given my son the vaccine.”
