It’s a tragic irony that the nation awarded military honour to the Bravehearts from this God-forsaken state, Manipur, while the state has been left alone to be burnt and destroyed for more than three years now, with thousands still languishing in wretched conditions in the so-called “relief camps”, and many deprived of their fundamental rights under the Constitution...

Two of them were awarded Vir Chakra, the third-highest wartime gallantry award, namely, Sqn. Ldr. Rizwan Malik, a Manipuri fighter pilot flying the deep-strike Sukhoi Su-30MKI of the Indian Air Force, was awarded the Vir Chakra for his daring act of bombing and destroying camps of inimical forces deep inside enemy territory during Operation Sindoor, while Constable Chingakham Deepak (BSF) was martyred at the Indo-Pak border at Jammu during Operation Sindoor.

While four others were awarded Shaurya Chakra, Maj Leishangthem Deepak, a member of the elite 11 Para (Special Force) of the Indian army, Subedar P.H. Mosses, Naib Subedar (now Subedar) P. Prabin, and Rifleman Manglem Sang Vaiphei …

I had reminded the nation earlier, on the floor of our Temple of Democracy, about the likes of Maj Ngangom Joydutta, who died fighting in Sri Lanka as a part of the IPKF, and was awarded the Vir Chakra and Maj Laishram Jotin, who died fighting suicide bombers who attacked the Indian mission in Afghanistan, was awarded the Ashok Chakra…besides numerous sports stars who brought laurels to the country…and yet the state was subjected to an unprecedented insult and tragedy for years on…The saga continues…

Unfortunately this argument that Thadous are Kukis still continues. Prejudiced? Please read till the end if you truly care for Manipur!

❗️People seem to forget that:
👉Thadou is an ethnic tribe
👉Kuki is of two kinds, in practical terms.
1. Pre-1956, past: Kuki is a nomenclature or an umbrella term, not an ethnic tribe. Obsolete now.
2. Post-1987, current: Kuki is an ideology to create a Kukiland.

❗️Kuki church leaders, or "pseudo-pastors," Dr. T. Lunkim (the master) and his associates Rev. Dr. T.L. Angam Haokip, KBC Pastor Onkho Haokip, Evangelist Paogin Haokip,
and P.S. Haokip, a Kuki cult leader and president of the KNO, etc. are behind the Kuki ideology.

P.S. Haokip promoted this Kuki supremacy and sovereignty ideology in his book, Kuki Zalengam (reportedly written by AKT MLA Paolienlal Haokip and AKT Seilen Haokip).

❗️Kuki ideology is being implemented through:
1. Kuki militant groups (all from Thadou community).
2. AKT (Any Kuki Tribe, since 1987) to bring legitimacy by giving a ‘borrowed’ ethnic identity to Kuki.

❗️Post - May 3, 2023
This movement got stronger when sections of other smaller communities such as Vaiphei joined it due to what happened in Imphal where the emotionally charged mobs attacked every community under the, now obsolete, pre-1956 concept of Kuki in retaliation to what happened in Churachandpur. Many people still seem to be ignorant of this pre-calculated design and caught in PS Haokip’s net!

Remember those Vaipheis who resisted to leaving Imphal, long after May 3, 2023, saying that they were Vaiphei, not Kuki!

These smaller tribes, like Vaiphei ended up in the hands of this Kuki ideologists!

❗️So the crux
Thadou, also known as Khongjai, is an ethnic tribe, inseparable part of the Manipuri society,

whereas

Kukis are the subscribers of the ideology to create a Kukiland with AKT, Any Kuki Tribe, inhabiting the new land with stolen ethnic attributes of Thadou.

❗️Thadous who want to protect their own identity and resisted to the above design become the enemies of the Kukis.

Though intimidated and suppressed, there always has been a section of Thadou (currently a minority for fear of their lives) who always stood against this movement, there are written documents on it since 1987.

❗️Saying Thadous are Kukis is like saying the Thadou church leaders killed recently for standing up of Thadou identity and preaching peace in the state are the same as the Kuki church leaders, listed above, who want to break Manipur. Is synonymous to saying Nekham Jomhao killed for attending peace summit in Imphal is a Kuki!

❗️Thadous admit that most of the community migrated to Manipur in the 19th century but over the centuries they have become an integral part of Manipur. They openly campaign for Manipur integrity, abrogation of SoO, NRC based on a cut off year, and many more to bring peace and collective development in Manipur.

Anybody who equates Thadous who stand for Manipur to the Kukis who want to break Manipur, surely do not have Manipur in their hearts but something else!

The demography changed so much in the last few decades that many indigenous tribes of Manipur e.g. Aimol, Tarao, Khoibu, … are in danger of extinction due to the influx of this huge Kuki-Chin population from neighbouring countries. Just to remind, Kukis tried to befriend with the Maring tribe, classing them as one of their kindred tribes in their quest for indegeneity and legitimacy to the land. Maring tribe, which has a very close affinity with the Meiteis rejected Kukis’ claims bluntly as expected!

I request the government of Manipur of @NBirenSingh to do the needful to protect these indigenous tribes of Manipur from extinction and preserve our colourful common cultural heritage 🙏🏻
