@MiniRetireMatt 401k maxing for me and my wife. Retail account contributions. Home appreciation. HSA maxing. 529 contributions. Got to 50%+ savings rate before 35.
Consistent salary/bonus increases.
Most important step… Total market index fund investing 100%. No individual stock trading.
@dividendology I used to live in PA but then I retired at 40 and moved to Bali. Before I left the US I domiciled in South Dakota. For the next 20 years I will be converting most of my IRA to Roth within the 12% tax bracket so state taxes won’t matter when I really begin to spend big bucks.
@BoomerDivvies Don’t try too hard at it. Just invest in the entire market (VTI). Focus on savings and don’t fall into the trap of impressing people you don’t care about. Your investment balance is a much bigger flex than a car or house or clothes or alcohol.
@MarketPalmer_ Real estate tax and property maintenance is missing in the calculation. Also a strong pull to spend money to renovate plus high transaction costs to withdraw equity on your “investment”. Owning is not an investment decision. It’s a lifestyle decision.
