@gasherimugaoP Hey Gasheri, indeed a very powerful tribute to Rajan.
He was a gem of a person, incredibly positive and always had time for others.
I am sure that he will rise to even greater things in his next life but he has left a huge void in our current life.
🙏
@moneyacademyKE This is a crazy issue which have never got resolved for more than 6 months. Yet ntsa and ministry of transport are doing nothing about it
Kenya's government faces a shortage of over 70,000 number plates due to delayed funding to NTSA suppliers.
The crisis hits motorcycles (51,000), new cars (7,000), and tuk-tuks (750), forcing some riders to use printed papers illegally.
Efficient and competitive ports are critical to Kenya’s economic growth, regional trade, and the overall performance of the manufacturing sector. Continuous engagement between industry stakeholders and port authorities is therefore essential in addressing operational challenges and improving service delivery.
Kenya Association of Manufacturers has today participated in the @shipperscouncil workshop with the @Kenya_Ports Managing Director, Captain William Ruto, to address the challenges facing Kenya’s ports.
Captain Ruto highlighted several initiatives being undertaken by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) to enhance operational efficiency at the ports. These include yard expansion and reconfiguration to reduce re-handling and improve equipment productivity, the acquisition and deployment of additional cargo-handling equipment, and the optimization of vessel windows and crane allocation to accelerate vessel operations and ease yard congestion.
He also emphasized ongoing stakeholder engagement with shipping lines, transporters, and government agencies to strengthen booking discipline, enhance evacuation capacity, and streamline cargo clearance processes. Additionally, KPA is investing in the acquisition of new equipment to further improve efficiency and service delivery.
“Efficiency at the port is a shared responsibility and requires the support of other relevant stakeholders,” noted Captain Ruto.
KAM Chief Executive @TobiasAlando emphasized the need for collective action in addressing the challenges facing Kenya’s ports. He noted that stakeholders must work jointly to identify sustainable solutions that will strengthen the country’s business environment and enhance trade facilitation.
“While immediate interventions are necessary to address the current bottlenecks, equal focus must be placed on developing long-term strategies to prevent the recurrence of similar challenges in the future,” explained Mr. Alando.
This Forum provided shippers an opportunity to engage directly with KPA management and openly discuss operational challenges at the Port of Mombasa and collectively identify candid and practical solutions aimed at easing congestion, improving port efficiency and enhancing seamless movement of cargo.

The smooth flow of cargo through our ports is essential in making Kenya the destination of choice for goods coming into the country and those in transit to the hinterland.
Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) has this afternoon convened a high-level stakeholder meeting to discuss congestion and inefficiency challenges facing the business community at the port of Mombasa and the Inland Container Deport Nairobi in Embakasi.
The meeting brought together the @shipperscouncil CEO Agayo Ogombi and @KifwaK
The key objectives of the meeting were to align cargo owners, clearing agents, and regulators on the commercial impact of the empty container evacuation crisis, and to discuss detention and demurrage relief measures as the industry works toward stabilizing depot capacity.
The meeting aimed to build consensus among stakeholders on the impact of the empty container evacuation crisis and discuss relief measures for detention and demurrage.
Currently, the business community is grappling with full empty container depots, leading to rejected returns, limited booking slots, and restricted return windows. These challenges continue to disrupt normal port operations and slow down cargo movement. The constraints reflect gaps in depot capacity, evacuation planning, and coordination among stakeholders. As a result, manufacturers and traders face higher landed costs, increased working capital pressure due to delayed container returns, and growing risks to business competitiveness, particularly for imports and exports.
KAM, SCEA and KIFWA shall engage relevant government ministries and agencies as well as partners with the aim of improving port efficiency.

Congratulations to @BasiGoKenya on the launch of their electric city bus, a milestone that positions Kenya as a front-runner in electric vehicle assembly in the region.
BasiGo’s innovative leasing model is a game-changer for transporters, making the shift to electric buses more accessible and affordable.
The transition to electric public transport will also cut down on the high fuel consumption that accounts for the largest share of our imports, strengthening both our economy and our energy security.
Today, I attended the launch of BasiGo’s electric bus assembly plant at CFAO’s KVM in Thika, joined by BasiGo CEO Jit Bhattacharya, MD Moses Nderitu, PS @IndustryKE Dr. Juma Mukhwana, and other key industry stakeholders.

Everywhere you go in this country, you are bound to find a locally manufactured product. This highlights the integral role of the manufacturing sector in our economy. The importance of this sector cannot be overstated, as it stands as the next big employer after the public sector. Manufacturing, in particular, employs a substantial 352,000 people. - @_CEOKAM

Please ignore the trending video of an unfortunate situation at an airport in a neighboring country, which some WhatsApp users have wrongly attributed to Entebbe International Airport. Note that this is not Entebbe International Airport.
@kipmurkomen Bwana Cs @kipmurkomen could we have a meeting with the automotive sector to iron out these issues for number plates and registration for motor vehicles and motorcycles. We are ready to jointly partner and move forward.
