Dear @grok, if @mlb commissioner Rob Manfred is eyeing retirement, who are the likely heirs? Give me the 5 likeliest candidates with each person’s scouting report, pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses, etc.
And, ideally give me a similar archetype in politics, business, previous sports mgmt etc
I am very lucky.
I have a wonderful family.
I have an incredible team at work @WatchMojo
Surreal. 20 years later: OMG. OMFG. JFC am I blessed.
We are all blessed in the grand scheme of things.
Because I encourage communications and care about people's feelings, for 20 years I have encouraged a certain culture. It's great. It's the foundation of our track record.
It leads to people opening up about their problems.
I love hearing people's problems because I love to solve problems.
I empathize. I don't discount any of them.
But, if I may... between us, if I can confide to somebody...
Their (our collective) problems are a reflection of our good fortunes, luck, etc.
I take it all in and enjoy it. It's one of the things I am most proud of - knock on wood - that the heartaches and headaches those around me open up about are generally a reflection of our success, addressable if not solvable... and I am the kind of masochist that is willing to listen and eager to help resolve.
Thought experiment.
You work at a company.
The staff buys a group lottery ticket.
It hits.
Everyone suddenly has FU money.
The next morning, every employee resigns.
Everyone.
Except you.
For a variety of reasons, you walk into your boss's office and say:
"Everyone else left. I'm staying."
So now it's just the two of you.
No legacy org chart.
No sacred cows.
No internal politics.
No existing departments.
Just a blank sheet of paper.
What do you do next?
Do you replace everyone?
Do you rebuild the same company?
Do you stay in the same business?
Or, given everything you know today—and given the latest technology, especially AI—do you build something entirely different?
This isn't your boss talking. This is you. You get the business better than anyone.
In other words:
If you had to start your company from scratch tomorrow, with the benefit of hindsight and today's tools, what would it look like?
Either Hollywood's elite know something we don't, are plotting to take down AI from the inside, or are hypocrites misguiding the future generation of storytellers.
June 2 is known as Lou Gehrig's day. The disease we now commonly call Lou Gehrig's disease was known medically as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) before Lou Gehrig became associated with it.
The nickname emerged after Gehrig's diagnosis and retirement:
June 19, 1939 – Lou Gehrig delivered his famous "Luckiest Man" speech at Yankee Stadium.
1939 – Gehrig was publicly diagnosed with ALS.
1941 – Gehrig died from the disease at age 37.
The public and media quickly began referring to ALS as "Lou Gehrig's disease" becxause Gehrig was one of the most famous athletes in America and his illness brought enormous awareness to a previously little-known condition.
So while there wasn't a single official date when the name changed, the term "Lou Gehrig's disease" entered widespread American usage between 1939 and 1941, following his diagnosis and death.
Interestingly, outside North America, the disease is still much more commonly referred to simply as ALS or motor neuron disease (MND), whereas in the United States and Canada, "Lou Gehrig's disease" remains a widely recognized synonym.x
June 2nd marks Lou Gehrig Day, to raise awareness of ALS and the people affected by it. Donations made today are tripled across Quebec, specifically. Please consider giving. #ALS
The Islamic Republic of Iran is signalling with no ambiguity what their plan is: sign any reasonable document necessary to buy time until The Donald is out of the White House, and then continue to wreak havoc as is sees fit. He is clearly saying this and the translations are accurate. Americans think these maniacs are reasonable to deal with. They are demonic.
As I said pre-2024 election, especially wrt Iran, is that he does not have Principles, Purposes, and so on... he is driven by PR, Profit, etc. so if anyone was looking for conviction, resolve and consistency, that is not Trump... and again, Iranians sadly pay the price. It was hard to think of a POTUS being more disliked than Carter and Obama, but if Trump does this deal with the IR and gives them this lifeline and leverage, it's hard to see how Iranians love him over time despite taking out Khamenei.
A pair of games abroad per year as an exhibition makes sense IMHO. So one year @BlueJays vs @Montreal_Expos in Paris/London… next year in Tokyo/Seoul… ensuing in Sydney/Melbourne (for example). That all said, not that I’m walking away from my promise to the city - we will submit - but I’m also growing realistic that I may be too (insert any adjective) for @MLB and some of these ideas may seem ambitious. Unsure if they wanna coast or grow.
Me: excuse me, sir, do you have… do you sell baguettes?
Cashier (looks me up and down): no… we don’t sell baguettes… but, hum… if you want, I can give you a piece of bread.
JFC. Do I look homeless to you? WTF.
