Really disappointed in Salvation Army for closing the doors to their downtown shelter in Austin. 100 people will be displaced because of this and at risk for being ticketed or arrested. Not to mention if their shelter lot is sold they’ll gain tens of millions of dollars in profit

The official closing date is 3/15. They have given unhoused folks and the Homeless Response System 3 weeks to pick up their pieces. Not to mention SXSW will be happening during all of this and hotel space will of course be limited because of that 🙃

Many organizations that are apart of the Homeless Response System in Austin gathered today and invited Salvation Army to answer questions and concerns from the community and they did not want to be included in this conversation 🙃🙃🙃
