Great News

The bill has been proposed on Jan 13 so IMGs can practice as a Physician in New Jersey without repeating full U.S. residency (Proposed Bill A3398 - 2026 Session)!

- Requirements: Medical doctorate from a program in good standing, residency or equivalent training abroad, at least 5 years of practice, good standing with home country regulator, English proficiency, legal immigration status, background clearance.

-Must have an employment offer from a licensed healthcare facility in New Jersey.

-Provisional license pathway (if enacted), with potential transition to full licensure after meeting board requirements.

-Salary: Expected to vary by employer and specialty. Likely higher than resident salary

-Designed to address physician shortages while recognizing international training.

-Status: Introduced and currently pending in committee (not yet enacted into law).

-Tips: Start building relationships with healthcare systems in New Jersey and prepare documentation early.

I came across this on Reddit, and it is genuinely heartbreaking. September 30 to October 2022 is peak season for residency programs to review applications. From firsthand experience, I can tell you that IMG applications are considered incomplete without ECFMG certification, and their chances of receiving interview invitations drop drastically. So why on earth did they choose to transition to MyIntealth at such a critical point in the residency application cycle? It is just so incredibly unfair and sad.

A new bill just introduced in Congress proposes adding 14,000 residency positions between 2026–2032 👀

If passed, this could open more doors for International Medical Graduates especially in rural & underserved areas that tend to be more IMG-friendly.

📌 Remember: this bill is still in the proposal stage. But it’s a clear signal that change is coming.
