@Wangchuk66 We need to learn value of food. Food saved from wastage is equivalent to that much additional production in the system. Let us remind ourselves that India could became nuclear because we were self reliant in food.

@EgrowF This may be infeasible, given it's perishable character and storage/off-loading it in the market later will be a big challenge. Second policy option may be that Govt. give per cow (not per litre of milk) a pre-determined amount to compensate owners of negative NPV.

@EgrowF To make rearing of indigenous milching cows an economically viable proposition, there could be two ways to do it. First, to consider procuring milk at MSP (as in case of certain crops) if market prices falls below MSP.
