The #Congress office in #Assam wore a deserted look as early trends showed the BJP securing nine seats and leading in 72 others, according to data from the Election Commission of India. Supporters appeared visibly upset with the mandate.
Reacting to #GauravGogoi’s defeat in #Jorhat, party voices said the loss was not due to lack of public support but driven by “social calculations,” alleging the use of caste and communal politics. They maintained that Gogoi remains popular among the people and credited his leadership for raising key state and national issues, while also accusing Chief Minister #HimantaBiswaSarma of strategising to weaken the Congress in the election using "caste and communal politics".

Around 250 people from Manipur were airlifted in the first phase under “Operation Wings of Dawn” on April 23 as a part of a larger plan to move thousands more in the coming years. The Bnei Menashe, settled in Manipur and Mizoram, trace their roots to the ancient tribe of Menashe and have long sought to return to Israel for religious and cultural reasons.
The community, which claims descent from one of the biblical “lost tribes” of Israel, sees the move as a return to its ancestral homeland. The larger plan aims to relocate thousands more in phases, as many members say they face challenges practising their faith fully in remote parts of Northeast India.

As India marks Sikkim’s Statehood Day, the story of its 1975 merger goes beyond official history. Once a Himalayan kingdom under the Chogyal, Sikkim became India’s 22nd state after a decisive referendum, but behind the scenes, a 27-month-long covert operation led by India’s intelligence agency, RAW, quietly shaped the outcome.
From rising internal unrest and pro-democracy movements to strategic intervention and a historic vote, the merger reflects a calculated blend of diplomacy, intelligence, and public sentiment that redrew India’s map without a full-scale conflict.

The recent strikes on #Iran stem from years of rising #tensions over its #nuclear program, which the #US and #Israel fear could lead to nuclear weapons despite Iran insisting it is for peaceful purposes.
In late February 2026, during nuclear talks in #Geneva, the US and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iranian military and nuclear-related sites, prompting Iran to retaliate with missiles and drones targeting Israeli locations and US bases in the region.
The escalation has heightened fears of a wider #MiddleEast conflict, especially after disruptions around the Strait of #Hormuz, a key global oil route.

In this exclusive interview with IndiaTodayNE, India’s most beloved storyteller Amish Tripathi dives into the spiritual and historical heart of the Northeast. He discusses the vital need to "decolonize" Indian history by celebrating heroes beyond Delhi-centric narratives. Amish teases potential future epics centered on the Northeast, including the legendary resistance of Lachit Borphukan and the defeat of Bakhtiyar Khilji in Assam. From his transition from banking to bestsellers to his philosophy on Indian unity, this conversation is a must-watch for history buffs and aspiring writers alike.

This isn’t a traditional loan scam. This is reputation warfare — a cybercrime model built on shame, fear, and social pressure.
If this happens to you, remember, you are not the culprit. You are the victim.
Inform your circle. Report aggressively. Don’t give in.

Cyber scammers have adopted a new tactic using conference calls to target victims, weaponising their professional and social networks to harass, intimidate, and extort.
India Today NE spoke to a couple from #Guwahati — the husband a corporate employee, the wife a journalist — whose lives were thrown into chaos within 48 hours after scammers, posing as “recovery agents,” accused them of defaulting on loans and contacted colleagues, relatives, threatening reputational damage.
Police admitted they are largely helpless because the numbers are system-generated and bot-driven, making them difficult to block or trace, and advised victims to report numbers manually.

Assam heard Zubeen Garg’s voice once again on October 7. “Mur Mon” — the first song released after his passing — has already crossed half a million views in just hours, trending at number one on YouTube.
In the song, Zubeen plays a blind man searching for light amid darkness — a haunting reflection of his artistry and soul. His wife, Garima Saikia Garg, shared the video with the emotional words, “You are here… always illuminating our path.”
Roi Roi Binale, Zubeen’s final film, will release on October 31 — a posthumous tribute to his creative spirit. Director Rajesh Bhuyan confirmed the film retains Zubeen’s original voice, urging fans not to misuse his work out of respect for his memory.
As Mur Mon continues to resonate across platforms, it reminds us that while Zubeen may have left the stage, his music — and his light — will never fade.
