Aujourd’hui, j’ai reçu un appel téléphonique du président Emmanuel Macron. Il a présenté ses condoléances à nous-mêmes ainsi qu’aux familles des peshmergas tombés lors de l’attaque de missiles à Soran, et a exprimé ses vœux de prompt rétablissement aux blessés. Il a également condamné avec fermeté l’attaque survenue aujourd’hui à Dohuk et a réaffirmé le soutien constant de la France envers la région du Kurdistan et l’Irak.

Je l’ai remercié pour cet échange ainsi que pour les positions internationales de la France, et nous avons discuté des derniers développements liés au conflit. Nous avons insisté sur l’importance d’intensifier les efforts diplomatiques afin de parvenir à une cessation des hostilités.

If Syrian government forces continue to advance in the north toward Raqqa, I will push for reimposing Caesar Act sanctions on steroids.

Apparently no one in Syria is listening to me or other U.S. government officials. If this continues, not only will there be bone-crushing sanctions, it will permanently damage relationships between the U.S. and the new Syrian government. If you think we’re BSing - keep it up.

I’ve tried to be fair to the new government, but apparently it’s falling on deaf ears. If you want a conflict with the U.S. Senate and to do permanent damage to the U.S.-Syria relationship - keep going. If you want to salvage the relationship, stop and turnaround.
