Very sad news.
Jeffrey Archer was a remarkable man. He led a long and varied life, making an enormous impact on our politics and literature.
He raised millions for charitable causes, and his warmth, energy and generosity were always in abundance. He was a dear and loyal friend.
My thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with Mary and his family.
May he rest in peace.🙏🏼

Holborn is no longer a by-election. It’s now a referendum on whether Jews are safe, secure and accepted in Britain. Anyone who regards themselves as progressive has to accept this reality.
Lots of @TheGreenParty officials posting about how they “don’t agree” with the motion.
We are often asked: “What would you have done when they came for the Jews?”
Well, your party just did.
So either own it or leave it.
Enough with the empty posturing.
I will always fight extremism, wherever it rears its ugly head.
Shockingly, Southwark Greens now have a policy opposing Israel's right to exist. They’re propped up here by the LibDems who must also consider their position.
NEW: Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, who represented Illinois for two decades in Congress and was jailed for violating banking laws, has died, a coroner in Illinois said. He was 84.
Both the longest-serving Republican House speaker and the highest-ranking elected U.S. official to serve a prison sentence,
Hastert's stunning fall from grace came in 2016, when he was sentenced to 15 months in prison on charges related to his concealment of hush money payments made to cover up his sexual abuse of teenage boys during his time as a high school wrestling coach.

Today, with colleagues, I have written to Sussex police about potential antisemitic offences being committed at the Green Party conference in Brighton.
And to the EHRC seeking an investigation into potential breaches of the equality act.
I will update you when I hear back. This is important for our great country.
Maybe the best Conference jape ever is the @Conservatives “Bayeux” Tapestry, depicting events 2024-26.
Love the detail - and its own, climate-controlled viewing room here in Birmingham.
Better than my Keir Starmer flip flops from 2023, although those did actually sell out.
