I appreciate that CA State Parks made a point to include dogs in lifejackets in this tweet. We make sure our dogs are in lifejackets when we take them to the river. If nothing else, it makes it much easier to get them back in the boat when they fall out.
Boating season kicks off tomorrow with #NationalSafeBoatingWeek May 20-26. @Boat_California encourages all boaters & outdoor enthusiasts to brush up on boating safety skills & recreate responsibly. Read more about life jacket safety in our press release: https://t.co/Dg0lph5opc
@jlocantore Similar to you, I gave up my car for financial reasons and experienced living in a city, suburb, and rural area without a car. It was radicalizing. Some things were easier and/or fine without a car, a lot of things were not. The Suburbs were definitely the worst.
What if...we invested money into turning regional airports like these into high speed rail stops, and built out a robust high speed rail network instead?
Investing in more plane infrastructure in 2023 is climate arson.
Rural and urban travelers alike should have modern airports to make flying safer and more convenient. These new investments across Minnesota will help us meet the state’s current and future demand for air travel. https://t.co/0dqZE9jgcl
@Nerd4Cities I think it depends on the location of the city and the type of disaster. Probably the best example is that densely built cities are relatively safe places from the more extreme dangers of wildfires in the west.
@alex_hallowell I take the bus but I'm selective about it. Things that may make me choose a different option:
1. Frequency
2. Time of travel
3. Directness of route
4. How do I find the schedule and how dependable is it
5. Can I use a card to pay my fare (I don't carry cash)
@nedboulting Without a doubt. Have done in the past, in rural, suburban, and urban settings. Easier in the city, but actually really enjoyable in the rural area too. Hell in the suburbs.
It is infuriating to lose someone to a driver who gets a slap on the wrist and gets to keep driving. THEY KILLED SOMEONE. Don't let them operate the machinery they used to do it. FFS.
Every single person who kills someone else with their vehicle should not be allowed to drive for at least several years, whether they get sent to jail or not.
Was just thinking yesterday about how rear and side visibility is so terrible in cars now compared to 20 years ago, and how instead of fixing the design, engineers just decided to put a crappy 2001 cell phone fish lens camera on every rear bumper.
The increasingly dangerous design of cars is not just a matter of hugeness. As a very tall person renting a little Toyota hybrid in Spain, this is my view out the windshield. Imagine being a pedestrian coming from my right. @schmangee @DavidZipper
All I want is a bus that comes frequently and on time, some safe bike lanes, and wider sidewalks. All I'm getting is none of that and cars that are getting bigger and more dangerous. I despair for the future my kid will be given by our society.
States: "We're going to move heaven & earth to invest in electric cars & batteries using millions in taxpayer money that will largely benefit the suburbs."
Cities: "EVs are going to be difficult to charge in cities. Can we get more investment in public transit?"
States: "No."
"Baby, I got your money." State of Michigan to give Ford $1B in incentives to build battery plant on farmland in exchange for 2,500 jobs. That's $400,000 per job and people complain that we subsidize bus riders too much...
Well, this is an interesting development. Anything to make finding housing easier is helpful, though this will prob be most useful for the long term.

A jury found a Ukiah man not guilty of driving under the influence after deciding his actions were justified after he was caught cheating on his wife, which made his driving “necessary to allow him to escape two angry women." https://t.co/XZqGM8SWvP
Asked @Sen_JoeManchin in @semafor virtual panel if Medicaid should be off the table for cuts like Social Security/Medicare. He doesnt seem as inclined to protect it:
"Everybody's asking about what's basically the Bill Clinton welfare to work. I support it then, I support it now"
