The BJP has prepared to send Tarun Chugh to the Rajya Sabha and has nominated him from Madhya Pradesh. One thing about the BJP is that it tends to maintain its established social and caste balance. If the party has appointed a Jat Sikh as its Punjab president, then it would not be surprising for it to send a Hindu leader to the Rajya Sabha. Likewise, it would not be surprising if he is later made a minister. Meanwhile, it is now being widely assumed that Ravneet Bittu’s exit is almost certain.
Panchkula: Ratan Lubana, a club operator and brother-in-law of a BJP leader, was shot at in Sector 5. The CCTV footage of the attack shows him fighting for his life as bullets were fired at him. The Rohit Godara gang has claimed responsibility for the incident. Lubana is critically injured and is undergoing treatment. Sanjay Gupta, an IAS officer who recently retired from the post of Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh and had been in the spotlight over various controversies and allegations of corruption, has been appointed Chairman of the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Although several senior Punjab officers were also considered strong contenders for the post, they were overlooked and Sanjay Gupta was appointed instead. According to sources, the appointment is said to have been made on the recommendation of an Aam Aadmi Party Member of Parliament based in Delhi.
The decision has sparked a fresh controversy, with questions being raised over Punjab’s interests and the apparent lack of preference given to officers from the state.
