Need guidance and opinion of @IncomeTaxIndia@nsitharaman@nsitharamanoffc and all my respected professional colleagues..
A practical issue has emerged in the AY 2026-27 ITR Utility that deserves attention.
CBDT Circular No. 36/2016 categorically clarifies that compensation received pursuant to an award or agreement under Section 96 of the RFCTLARR Act, 2013 is not taxable under the Income-tax Act, even where no specific exemption provision exists in the Income-tax Act itself. (Photo 2)
This clarification is particularly relevant for compensation received on compulsory acquisition of non-agricultural land, which enjoys exemption by virtue of Section 96 of the RFCTLARR Act and the CBDT Circular. (Photo 2)
However, while reporting exempt income in the latest ITR Utility, taxpayers are required to select a specific category/sub-category. The available options appear to include Section 10(37) for capital gains arising on compulsory acquisition of urban agricultural land, but no corresponding reporting code is available for compensation exempt under Section 96 of the RFCTLARR Act. (Photo 1)
This raises an important compliance question:
✅How should taxpayers report compensation exempt under Section 96 of the RFCTLARR Act in the absence of a dedicated disclosure field or exemption code in the utility?
A suitable clarification or utility update from CBDT would be highly welcome!
IDFC First Bank Pays Rs 583 Crore to Haryana Govt – But Hasn’t Recovered a Penny!
We are seeing the headlines: IDFC First Bank hands over Rs 583 crore to Haryana government after spotting a Rs 590 crore fraud at their Chandigarh branch. But wait – the bank hasn’t recovered any of this lost money yet! They paid it all back to the govt departments right away, covering full principal and interest, even while police probe is on.
Banks can’t just dip into your deposits like that – it’s against rules. Instead, this hit comes from the bank’s own pockets, likely eating into their profits or reserves. They’ll now chase the crooks (bank staff and outsiders who colluded) to get it back, but who knows how long that’ll take.
Big question: If this fraud hit your or my small account – say Rs 5,000 gone – would the bank pay us back in 24 hours? Hell no! They’d make us file complaints, run to branches, wait months for RBI help, and maybe still say “sorry, not our fault.” But for big govt accounts? Instant payout! Shows how banks treat VIPs vs regular folks. Time for better rules to protect us all? What do you think? #BankFraud #IDFCFirstBank #HaryanaGovt
Let’s Retweet, time for UNITY.

@IncomeTaxIndia@nsitharamanoffc@abhishekrajaram@bhuvanmittal Respected Officials,
I wish to draw your urgent attention to the repeated breakdowns faced by the Indian Income Tax e-filing portal during peak filing season. While our portal serves lakhs of citizens and professionals, it frequently becomes inaccessible, slow, or unresponsive at critical times. As deadlines approach, compliance becomes nearly impossible due to these persistent failures—this is not just inconvenient but unfair.[angelone +1]
International technology platforms such as Google and similar services manage traffic of billions daily, with negligible downtime or technical errors. Yet, our national tax infrastructure, which should be a pillar of Digital India, cannot withstand even the routine surge in genuine taxpayer usage.[bajajfinserv +1]
I request that the government and concerned departments take inspiration from global public-facing technology, investing in truly world-class digital infrastructure, skilled engineering, and scalable architecture. It is time for India to have a tax portal as reliable and responsive as any top-tier global website, ensuring fair and smooth service for all taxpayers.

Date extension is genuine demand.
ITR & TAR both should be extended.
ITR is responsibility of Individual but they are usually ignorant about timelines and their responsibilities. Many of them even thinks that 12 lakh is threshold from this year.
Hope after seeing number OF pending ITR timely extension is inevitable.

@IncomeTaxIndia
Requesting that such issues be proactively avoided.
Such technical errors during working hours lead to wastage of valuable manhours 🙏
