Aralvaimozhi Fort was a key site in the opening of the 1809 Travancore revolt against the British. It is also linked to the memory of #Valiyayejamanan, a Nair commander who, according to ballads, was martyred at around 80 while fighting the British East India Company force.

The Nair military were fighting the British. The king of travancore, meanwhile, was busy negotiating with them disclaiming support for the uprising and granting safe passage through Quilon so British forces could help crush it. #nairmilitary#nairhistory#travancorehistory#nair

From the Sangam age to Travancore, royal marriage alliances remained a key political strategy in South India. kings married Velir daughters, the Ay rulers followed similar patterns, and Travancore royals later married women from influential Nair chief and warlord families.
Repeated Nayak and tamil incursions adversely affected agriculture, prompting the enhancement of Udayagiri Fort through donations from the Nattars -members of the Mudaliar-led Natukootam. The term "Nattar" was mistakenly recorded as "Nadar" in the Udayagiri Fort. #UdayagiriFort
The Venad dynasty emerged through the consolidation of the Venad chieftains--- the Mahasamantas of the Chera realm, and the Ay rulers. Parts of Nanchinadu were incorporated into Venad at a later stage.

@MeluhhakangZ@sarvamedha The office of Sarvadhikaryakkar was responsible for administration and governance. No available inscription or historical document provides any indication that these groups exercised administrative authority or held governing status.
@MeluhhakangZ@sarvamedha There is no evidence that they ruled any province. Their primary role was connected with agricultural production. Among them, the Mudaliyars held a relatively higher social position, enjoying certain special privileges and even heading grievance-seeking committees.
@MeluhhakangZ@sarvamedha Mudaliars were offered with the task of collection of tax and smooth agriculture business. They led the Nanjinad vellalars. Frequent invasions of Nayaks on fertile Nanjinad settlements are prevented by Nair lords. Thats how the system worked.
@MeluhhakangZ@sarvamedha There are two classes one, the forward class who compromise the minority and the second who are majority who falls under the reserved class.
@sarvamedha@MeluhhakangZ when polygamy was in practice Tvc rajas took them as second wives, which is also related for smooth deals between govt and agriculture production, since travancores major income came from agri. It was not practiced in past, in the medeival era it got started and also ended soon.
@MeluhhakangZ@sarvamedha Nope, most of them are agriculturist and tenants, and top ones have proffesion such as accountants and other office bearers in agri department. Travancore depended on them for paddy.
