An Old Parable on Rituals

A guru used to perform a Homa everyday. He had a cat. As a cat running around is a fire hazard, he used to tie it in a corner before starting Homa.

When he passed away, a sishya who memorized the mantras and procedure through observation decided to continue the tradition at his house.

But he had no cat!

So he went to the market, bought a cat of the same color and started doing the ritual everyday!

He did not realize that his master was tying the cat only because he ALREADY had it, i.e. it was not a requirement. 😃😢

and

Obviously the second verse points to a single retrograde motion near Jyestha Anuradha…
