Calling the death of Dr. Nafisa Tabassum Dhipra, a former student of Bangladesh Medical College, "unnatural," her classmates, colleagues, and family have demanded a proper, impartial investigation—along with an autopsy and justice.
They made the demand on Friday (June 12) during a human chain in front of BIRDEM Hospital in Dhaka.
Participants alleged that Dr. Dhipra had long suffered mental and physical abuse from her husband, Dr. Rahmat Rashid Siyam, her mother-in-law, and other members of the in-laws family. They claim she was locked in a room and deprived of adequate food for three days before her death.
Her family and classmates, after consulting multiple doctors, say there is a serious inconsistency with the "cardiac arrest" explanation given on June 4, 2026. They believe prolonged abuse pushed her into severe depression, and she attempted suicide by medicine overdose.
The family also alleges that relatives and close friends were not allowed to see her body, and she was buried hastily without a proper autopsy.
They are now demanding for an immediate autopsy and transparent investigation to determine the actual cause of her death, reveal the truth, and ensure legal action against all responsible.
