Hi, I'm Ash.
With over a decade of experience writing about real estate in South Africa, I’ve built a career around turning concrete into compelling stories. My background as a property broker gave me the inside edge, and today, I use that knowledge to create media that connects, informs, and sells.
I’m the founder of Ask Ash, a media house dedicated to marketing real estate across South Africa — from bustling retail hubs to industrial parks, luxury homes, and commercial developments. Whether I’m crafting sharp copy, creating video or social content, or speaking at industry events, my goal is simple: to make property relatable and marketable in a modern, digital-first world.
I work with developers, agencies, landlords, property-related companies, and brands that want more than listings - they want narratives that move people and media campaigns that matter. That’s where I come in, blending strategy, storytelling, and market insight to help property brands stand out and stay relevant.
Ready to turn your property into a story worth sharing? Let’s create media that actually moves the market.

Long before the first plane lands at the new Cape Winelands Airport, investors are already buying the land around it. Now ask yourself why?
Because airports attract logistics companies, warehouses, hotels, retailers, offices and the infrastructure needed to support them. Entire economic ecosystems form around major airports.
One development (5km from the future Cape Winelands Airport) that looks exciting is the Mountain View Business Precinct.
Quick details about the industrial park:
Phase 1:
• 66,500m2 secured by national + international users
• 18,681m2 single plot of serviced industrial land remains for sale
• Already 75% sold out
Phase 2
• 120,000m2 planned for release
The development will also include upgrades to Darwin Road, helping unlock the broader Durbanville industrial node.
There is a term urban planners use for development around airports: aerotropolis. Think of it as an airport-centred city where industrial, commercial, retail and hospitality developments cluster around aviation infrastructure. We've seen this happen around major airports across the world. Now we're watching it happen in the Cape Winelands.
Construction is expected to begin within the next 3 months. I've said it before, if you can, always buy near the airport.

Cape Town is about to get a Marriott Moxy Hotel with 266 hotel rooms😮👏
The development is situated right next to the DHL Stadium in Green Point and is known as The Granger.
It will also include 150 aparthotel units to be managed by Totalstay, 14,000 of premium-grade office space and 3,000m2 of retail space.
I caught up with Hannes Wagner, civil engineer at STRUXIT, for a construction update. He told me the hotel's foundations are in and the first lift columns have been cast.
"We're making solid progress - the groundwork is done, and we're now moving upward. This week we'll be casting the first elevated floor slab, which is a significant milestone for the structure." The photo shows the shuttering and decking being prepared for that pour.
For a city that continues to attract world-class hospitality investment, The Granger is shaping up to be one of Cape Town's most exciting urban developments to watch.
OPINION | Court puts municipality in its place: Other local government had better take note because the precedent has been set: as tempting as it might be, property owners are not an inexhaustible revenue source. | @Askash

A few months ago, I did a walkthrough of 170 Grosvenor in Bryanston, and I shared what I saw with you.
I went back to the site last week, and honestly, the progress is something else.
For those who missed it, 170 Grosvenor is a mixed-use development with 123 apartments in phase 1 and 61 apartments in phase 2.
This site used to house Fidelity’s offices. Now it’s concrete, cranes, a lot of hard hats. You can start to see the bones of how this place will actually feel. The structure is coming up fast, the floors are taking shape, and the vision that Merelava Developers talked about is starting to become real.
Another exciting addition to this project is the introduction of BlackBrick.
BlackBrick are a national aparthotel operator - but not in the traditional sense. They manage properties that blend hotel-style service with the flexibility of apartment living. Think of it as having the convenience and quality of a boutique hotel but in a space that actually feels like home.
It also tells you something about the confidence behind this project. I'll be watching this one closely as it continues to come out of the ground.
I would love to hear what you think about the project in the comment section below.
@jrichza@NewStreetsSA Helen Bowden Nurses Home building belongs to the WC Provincial Government.
It’s illegally occupied and will be a tough one to resolve as all of the illegal occupants will theoretically need to receive alternative accommodation somewhere else.
@Seb_Fjastad I tend to disagree on the retail front.
Main road to plenty of Green Point retail, restaurants and coffee shops is less than 5 min walk. Opposite direction is V&A Waterfront with even more options.
