What is Seedance?

Seedance is ByteDance's (TikTok parent) AI video model family. The latest, Seedance 2.0, launched in Feb 2026 and went instantly viral in China. It's being called China's "DeepSeek moment" but for video.

Why is everyone freaking out about it?

Because it doesn't just make a 5-second clip. It does what ByteDance calls "multi-lens storytelling."

One prompt = multiple connected shots with the same character, same lighting, same tone. No more stitching clips in CapCut / Premiere. 9817

It's true multimodal.

Most models are text-to-video. Seedance 2.0 takes text + image + video + audio together and generates video + synced audio at the same time.

It uses a dual-branch diffusion transformer structure - video and sound are generated jointly, not layered after. 45f5

- Up to 2K export, 1080p watermark-free in beta
- ∼30% faster generation than Seedance 1.5 and rivals like Kling

The controversy:

It got TOO good at copying IP. Disney sent a cease-and-desist, accusing ByteDance of pre-packaging Seedance with pirated Star Wars, Marvel, Spider-Man, Darth Vader etc. e67e

Paramount, Warner Bros, Netflix followed. ByteDance had to pause its global rollout and add "firm safeguards" against likeness/IP violations.

It quietly rolled out globally March 26 via CapCut paid users - Africa, South America, Middle East, SEA - US still excluded for now. 15e8

If Seedance 1.0 was TikTok on steroids, Seedance 2.0 is a full film crew in a prompt.
