โผ๏ธ Ukraineโs National Commission for UNESCO condemned Russian strikes on several cultural institutions in Ukraine, including the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The @UKRinUNESCO called on the international community to prevent Russia from participating in key @UNESCO bodies.
The Commission emphasized that the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a cultural landmark under enhanced protection in accordance with the 1954 Hague Convention and its Second Protocol.
The Commission also highlighted the cultural institutions damaged in the Russian attack:

๐น Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television named after Ivan Karpenko-Karyi,

๐น National Film Studio named after Oleksandr Dovzhenko.
"We call on the international community to stop tolerating these crimes, to increase political, economic, and legal pressure on the aggressor state, and to take decisive measures to end Russian aggression as soon as possible," the statement reads.
Furthermore, the Commission appealed to the leadership of the UNESCO Secretariat, demanding a "harsh and clear reaction" on their part, as well as the utilization of the tools available to the UNESCO Executive Board, the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, and the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
Ukraine has called on UNESCO experts to visit the damaged institutions, document the aftermath of the Russian strikes, and provide an impartial assessment.
