The summit reinforced the importance of health diplomacy, strong partnerships and the triple helix approach in strengthening health systems across our region.

I was pleased to share #Somalia’s experience, highlighting the success of our diaspora in improving health service delivery and establishing small-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing, alongside supporting hospitals, coordinating Somali Doctors in Diaspora and training health professionals.

Sustainable health security requires long-term vision, collective responsibility and meaningful collaboration.

The Principal Secretary, State Department for Medical Services, Dr Ouma Oluga, today chaired a high-level preparatory meeting ahead of the 2nd Eastern Africa Regional Global Health Security Summit (EARGHSS 2026), scheduled for 27–29 January 2026 at the Safari Park Hotel and Conference Centre.

The meeting brought together key national, regional, and international stakeholders to review progress and align final preparations for the summit. Held under the theme “Catalysing Collaboration and Local Manufacturing of Health Products for Africa’s Sovereign Health Security,” the forum will focus on strengthening regional cooperation, enhancing preparedness for disease outbreaks, and advancing local production of medicines, vaccines, and medical supplies.

The summit is expected to convene over 1,500 participants drawn from government, the private sector, development partners, academia, and the broader health community. It will culminate in the adoption of key regional commitments and the launch of Kenya’s Local Manufacturing Strategy for Health Products, reinforcing the country’s leadership in advancing health security across Eastern Africa.

Institutions involved in the preparatory process include Kenya Vision 2030, led by Dr Emmanuel Nzai; the Africa CDC East Africa Regional Coordinating Centre, chaired by Dr Lucy Mazyanga Masaba; Health Products and Technologies (HPT); the Kenya BioVax Institute; the Directorate of Health Sector Coordination; and senior officials from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
