For my fellow Muslim devs:
I'm working on a Ramadan side project. An app that integrates with your calander and and books ten minute slots in your day to pray.
Would love to work with a couple devs to bring this to life, I'm planning to open source it and it will be free.
Here’s how to build a company (or really do anything challenging) while being happy:
1/ Realize that if you achieve your goal, you actually won’t be any happier than you are right now. This is easy to say but hard to do. Set a reminder to meditate on this every day.
Leader of Islamic Center of Pittsburgh announces Muslim community has raised more than $70,000 for synagogue attack victims and their families.
"We just want to know what you need ... If it's people outside your next service protecting you, let us know. We'll be there."
Don't "work harder." Instead:
Cut away distractions.
Stop doing fake work.
Ask for help.
Plan.
Solicit criticism.
Automate what can be automated.
Engage your mentors.
Exercise.
Get more sleep.
Whatever you do, don't "work harder." It's pretty much never the answer.
I seldom apologize in emails.
Alternatives:
- Thanks for flagging!
- Good catch - I will make the updates/changes.
- Many thanks for noticing the error, [name], we will [verb]
- Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will [verb]
Stop over-apologizing at work.
I encourage you:
Pay attention and be informed.
Dissect issues, not people.
Commit to not becoming hateful.
Think about standing FOR love and justice, instead of against hate and injustice.
Because there’s a danger of becoming what we focus on most.
Good morning Twitter, your periodic reminder that "Hey guys" is not inclusive language, This is even more glaring when its used to address a specific set of people which is all men and one woman.
Signed Caitie & The Guys.
When neo-Nazis have nothing else to do but stand outside a Muslim American convention in Houston armed trying to intimidate attendees but then Black armed activists show up to say NAH. Solidarity is beautiful. ✊🏽

You’re 8 years old.
Your 3rd grade class orders chinese food & your father delivers it. You are so excited to see your pops in school. He’s your hero. But apparently other kids don’t think he’s so cool. They laugh at him and mimic his accent. You don’t want to be Chinese anymore.
“Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can't ride you unless your back is bent." #MLK
This is all true. It can be upsetting to admit so, because usually there’s not much we can do. But if you are a democrat registered to vote in New York State, on *Thursday Sept 13* you can do something. We have a brief chance to change. Vote in the primary race for Governor.
This is _the_ definition of exploitation. If the intention is for incarcerated folks to get training and use in the outside world, then provide all "necessary" requirements for them to qualify https://t.co/9wE8fjMTra
New blog post:
"Whatever success I’ve had in my career, I attribute almost entirely to my aptitude for unstructured learning. This is the kind of learning required when delving into a cutting-edge field, navigating a new job, or creating anything new."
