They waited inside for the sun to rise and burn it off.

But had to move to Village Down,

to find out what they said.

When she was young, she'd been scared she'd press it by accident. Maybe while brushing her hair, or in the bath.

But the years slipped by.

And some days she would wonder, and her hands would grow careless.

Would the new start be so bad?

Things were tense inside the egg.

From in there, it was hard to tell the difference

between a shell starting to crack

and a world falling apart.

Time travelers learned ghosts haunted times, not places.

They clustered near their tragedies, blocking entry.

Allowing no one to fix them.
