(2/2) In sixth grade we put on costumes and everyone wanted to act it out. It is honestly so much fun because it was funny, people were forced out of their comfort zone, and some people LOVED acting! I think it would be so fun to include theatre in the classroom! #491FlynnF20

I don't remember exactly what the text was, but I remember we acted something out my junior year of high school. It was so much fun and everyone got so into it! That was the only time I can remember in high school. We acted out a MSND in sixth grade...(1/2) #491FlynnF20

I really enjoy when we are able to include videos for an assessment rather than writing papers. I think I will definitely include this as a version of differentiated instruction when I have my own classroom #491FlynnF20

I did not get a very good grade on one of my first exams freshman year. I learned that how I studied in high school was not as beneficial in college. I also learned that I needed a new way to take my notes because I was not used to such fast paced classes #491FlynnF20

By allowing students to submit a variety of different assignments would be incorporating differentiated instruction. It allows students who have different skills show their knowledge in ways that benefit them rather than sticking in the mold of writing papers #491FlynnF20

I do think it is very interesting hearing about differentiated learning from a student's perspective, especially since she is so young and already noticed how school systems are created to teach one type of student. #491FlynnF20

I think that my Junior year English teacher was an inquiry teacher because she really believed in me and I believe that she held me to a higher standard that no teacher has held me to previously #English491F20

This instruction allows students to be more in control of their own learning process. The teacher can ask questions, allow students to take control of the discussion, and use methods to allow the students to learn and gain meaning from their personal experiences #Flynn491F20

One way to get to know our students is simply taking some time out of the curriculum and do activities in class. I'll never forget once at a placement the teacher spent the first two weeks doing team building and getting to know eachother activities in the class #Flynn491F20

@MissMarek_ I feel like we have always been taught to bring in the students' experiences to connect with them. However, in RWRU it shows how important doing this is for students and their writing, rather than just activating background knowledge.

@AllisonIodice I have a similar question. I've worked in classes where no matter how hard we tried to get a student to participate they would just sit on their phone. How can we help the students like this without making it a push out style classroom. #491FlynnF20

The last idea I took from RWRU is that we need to teach students can make art out of their lives and their histories/stories. I feel like this is obvious but we need to give them the opportunity to do so. #491FlynnF20

The first important idea I took from RWRU is that teaching is political. Every action/decision we make is some type of political action/decision. Second is that we need to have students learn about others and their peers' backgrounds, not just their own. #491FlynnF20
