the manuscript becomes even more heartbreaking when you remember the best day. at thirteen, her world falls apart and her mom takes her somewhere else just to make everything feel okay again, then years later, the girl in the manuscript tries so desperately to be older for someone who makes her feel small and when it’s over, she can only sleep in her mother’s bed. she spent that relationship trying to grow up faster than she should’ve had to and somehow, healing meant finding her way back to the one person who never made her feel like she had to grow up at all.
i don’t think i’ll ever hear those two songs the same way again.
maybe not necessarily indicative of technical greatness but "my pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand" and "my mind turns your life into folklore" are my top 2 examples of what she does best - simple but vividly evocative of a universal feeling
