We are closer than we’ve been in 40 years to making nuclear energy buildable again in America.
Trump’s EOs last week opened the door. But to walk through it — and actually build — we need one more structural push. This is what that looks like 👇
The nuclear moratorium in Illinois has breathed its last.
SB 25 cleared the Senate and Pritzker will sign.
Tons of people worked tirelessly to make this happen, especially @amedsker. This wouldn't have happened without him.
We should name the first new reactor after him.
You’re talking about a country that has endured years of economically crippling sanctions that haven’t made a dent in their behavior towards proxies and nukes. And ask yourself how much China will be hurt by losing their bulwark against the West in the ME? The world has changed. The old logic doesn’t apply.
@TwoTosh@ForexLive This massively discounts the advances in drone warfare and the asymmetric advantages they confer against conventional weapons systems or large “soft” assets. It also ignores the how the response calculus has evolved (or devolved).
@Abdurra61778398@MenchOsint I believe so, yes. An eighth was slated to be delivered to US inventory in 2025, but I’m not sure if it’s operational yet. The UAE has one, Israel two, SK one (permanent), Guam one (permanent). That leaves 2-3 either temp stationed in undisclosed locations or at Ft. Bliss.
@Abdurra61778398@MenchOsint The US has produced around 950 THAAD interceptors in total, ever. Of those, around 200 went to the UAE. The US has 7 THAAD batteries in total. The US has a max production rate of 8 interceptors per month.
The Administration has been telegraphing this as their strategy for years. If you can't see the playbook that they're about to be run, you aren't paying attention.

Look, I hear ya. I'm not terribly thrilled either that this is the direction that AI is heading. But that's where it's going. Within a decade movies and video games, hell probably even music, will be generated practically in real time based on your interests and desires.
Want a sequel to that video game you couldn't put down? Done.
Want a fanfic spinoff of that movie or series you binge watched? Here you go.
Have a particular song or artist on repeat? Here's this different, but similar enough AI generated banger that you're almost certain to smash the "like" button on.
And if that sounds eerily dystopian, that means you're one of the last few well-adjusted humans in modern society.
Ah, but that is ultimately a question about Truth. I don't necessarily disagree with you here, but how do you reconcile slang in this context? How do you reconcile the introduction and evolution of words and language over time?
One one hand, you're absolutely right - language derives its meaning from social consensus. However, the "meaning" of words is a bottom-up, emergent property. So the individual who uses a slang term (or the person who declares that "woman" means "anyone who says they're a woman") deploys language in a manner that governs their own expressive reality, but that language does not scale stably across broad societies - any attempt to do so (especially by brute force) will break communication and long-term trust.
So while language is "made up", it is not yours to remake alone.
@Harold36089778@GeorgeSelgin@danheld@PMehrling If it behaves like money, is treated as money, then it is money. Monetary systems are, always and everywhere, hierarchical. What you consider money every single day, is in fact, credit. There is, however, a distinction between inside money and outside money.
