When Americans went to war in Afghanistan, we didn’t go alone. Many Afghans stood beside our troops, translated for them, fought with them, and put themselves and their families in danger because they believed in what we were doing. We promised them that if they helped us, we would give them a path to safety in the United States.
More than 1,100 Afghans who helped us, including more than 400 children, have been stuck in limbo in Qatar for over a year waiting for us to honor our word. Now Trump is telling them they have two options: go back to Afghanistan and live under dangerous Taliban rule, or be sent to the Congo, which is in the middle of one of the worst humanitarian crises on the planet.
We don’t get to call ourselves the greatest country in the world and do this to those who helped us.

Stuck for over a year on a defunct US base on Doha's edge, 1,100 former Afghan allies of US forces and their families find themselves trapped in uncertainty after the US government suspended all Afghan immigration cases. https://t.co/HBnKi4oTyN

Members of the Hazara community in the DMV area gathered at the site of the recent shooting in Washington, D.C., to express their deep sympathy for the families of the two National Guard members who were targeted.
Their presence was not only an act of human solidarity, but also a clear reaffirmation that violence, extremism, and terrorism—anywhere and in any form—must be condemned. A community that has long been a victim of systematic violence understands better than anyone the true value of safety, coexistence, and respect for the rule of law.
I commend the responsible and thoughtful action of the Hazara community in the United States. Efforts like this reflect the true character of Afghanistan immigrants: respectful, law-abiding, and committed to humanitarian values.
I urge all Afghanistan citizens living abroad to uphold the highest standards of conduct in their host societies. We represent a wounded nation, and our behavior shapes the narrative the world sees about us.

FAKE NEWS: "Do you blame all Afghans?"
@POTUS: "No, but we've had a lot of problems with Afghans... There was no checking! They just poured into the plane!"
"But many of them are here legally!"
@POTUS: "Yeah, I know the old story, many are wonderful — yeah, I'm sure."
Because of the despicable action of one, USCIS now is embarking on a path to block Afghans as a class from remaining in the country. This ban on processing appears to include all applications and processing, including naturalization, EADs, asylum, adjustment etc. this is utterly punitive.
Many Afghans fought and helped our troops and helped keep us all safe from the Taliban. They should not be punished.
Yes, it is perfectly fine to vet and scrutinize applications within the confines of reasonable policies and practices. But what this announcement suggests is they are going to summarily target and deny benefits as retribution for the atrocious and despicable actions of one man.
