@PlayStationES Sorry CM, not personal but your bosses are so fucking stupid. Sad part is that PlayStation has incredible studios and talents, even engineers for their hardware, but a guy in a suit ruins everything because he wants a little bit more money cause you don’t have enough
@ctfw529@shinobi602 Idk, this would need to be looked into, but a system where you could host your own game could work even if it's different and doesn't apply to every game 🤷♂️
@MichaelShourd@shinobi602 Legally yeah, in reality a disc lets you resell, borrow, or find cheaper retail deals. 100% digital just means Sony controls the prices and we lose all leverage. So IDK you might be right, the EU laws need to catch up and protect consumers, we are just fucked rn :(
@bengardez11@shinobi602 Yeah mb, the scale is totally different but the Apple example was mostly to show that EU rules can force big tech to change. This is a different beast and needs a different approach, but we still need to figure out a way to protect consumers from total ecosystem lock-ins
@MichaelShourd@bengardez11@shinobi602 These are two complex and distinct issues that require deep discussion within EU regulations. The ultimate goal should simply be adapting the rules to protect consumers from corporate abuse
@MichaelShourd@bengardez11@shinobi602 The DMA was created to stop gatekeeping. As consoles go 100% digital and phase out discs, Sony has a total monopoly on its ecosystem with zero price competition. If the current law doesn't cover this lock-in, the regulations need to evolve, thats it
@bengardez11@shinobi602 Take what happened with Apple in the EU, forced to allow other app stores. Sure, you could just switch to an Android phone, the issue was the monopoly within Apple's own ecosystem itself
@bengardez11@shinobi602 Monopoly's on the console. Sure, PC/other consoles exist, but a PS5 exclusive = PS5 only. That's them controlling access & price. Even inside PS own ecosystem there's only one store, users shouldn't have to spend more on another system just to play. Still, I get your point
@shinobi602 This also completely ignores the massive antitrust issue, forcing a digital only ecosystem breaches the EU’s own fair competition rules. The EU should already be stepping in to mandate alternative digital storefronts on PlayStation
@shinobi602 True, but they can legislate to ensure that digital products behave exactly like physical ones making them actual user property, ensuring they remain accessible even if a company shuts down, and giving users true ownership
