@Assodesire, Advocacy Advisor for Africa, @OpenSociety, has highlighted that Africa’s conflict landscape is expanding rapidly, shaped by a ‘continental conflict complex,’ exposing the limits of #APSA. He mentioned the nexus btwn Security, governance & development while coups & contested transitions are rising, underscoring the urgent need for African-led solutions and institutional reform.
During the Post-AU Summit diplomatic dialogue yesterday in Addis Ababa, I raised the urgent need for a persuasive AU sanction regime against coup administrations that organize elections and easily return to power.
Suspensions alone cannot deter coups.
