Chris Evans reportedly demanded these 3 things before returning as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday.
After Avengers: Endgame, Evans turned down multiple Marvel pitches because he didn't want to return unless the story felt genuinely right.
For Avengers: Doomsday, he wanted:
• Steve's Endgame ending to matter- Chris Evans was protective of Steve's conclusion in Endgame and said he wanted to preserve what the character had already accomplished rather than simply undoing it for another appearance.
• A real reason for Steve to return- Chris Evans wasn't interested in coming back simply because Marvel wanted Captain America back. After hearing at least a dozen pitches over roughly eight years, he finally felt that Doomsday was different. The involvement of Robert Downey Jr. and Joe Russo's pitch made the return finally "feel right."
• A meaningful story for Steve Rogers- Evans has described Doomsday as a "brutal" examination of Steve's nature and values, suggesting that his return isn't just about nostalgia or putting the old Captain America back into action. The character is being placed in a situation that challenges what Steve fundamentally believes in.
And perhaps most importantly, Evans didn't want to return just for the sake of returning.
He spent years telling Marvel to keep pitching him because he wanted the right story, one that respected where Steve Rogers' journey ended in Endgame.
