A year of progress, pride, and rebuilding, nearly undone by pettiness and exclusion.
Today, I need to speak up for a veteran we’ve supported for over a year. Someone who served this country with pride, and who has been knocked back by the very community that should stand beside him.
This Remembrance weekend, a former British serviceman , someone who has earned his place to honour fallen comrades, has been banned from laying a wreath on behalf of the local Melbourne branch.
Not because of conduct.
Not because of anything to do with service.
But because of personal grudges and committee politics.
Let that sink in.
A veteran, threatened, excluded, and prevented from honouring those he served alongside… simply because certain individuals within the committee object to his personal relationship.
Last year, he couldn’t even attend due to threats.
This year, they’ve gone further and attempted to silence him again by stopping him from laying a wreath.
This is not what the Royal British Legion stands for.
This is not what Remembrance is about.
And this behaviour is a disgrace to the values veterans fought for.
Veterans deserve dignity.
They deserve respect.
They deserve the right to honour the fallen without fear, pressure, or intimidation.
To any veteran or family who has faced similar treatment, we see you, we stand with you, and we will not stay silent.
To the wider community, demand better.
Hold people accountable.
This kind of behaviour cannot and will not stand.
Remembrance is about unity.
It’s about sacrifice.
It’s about respect.
If you cannot uphold those values, you should not be representing veterans.
Statement from the veterans brother.
Long, but very important post....please read ❤️
Well what a sorry world we live in...
I've just spoken to my brother, Thom Ward, a former RAF airman. He has been told he is NOT allowed to lay a wreath tomorrow by Melbourne British Legion. Why, you ask? Well let me tell you....
He's in a loving relationship with the daughter of a committee member. That member is Holly Stenson. A woman I have never met, or had any dealings with. Yet she has taken umbrage at this relationship, even going so far as to estrange herself from her daughter. This woman, who has never served her country, has taken it upon herself to ensure my brother will not be able to represent his Force & Country - claiming to the current Chair of the Club, that they will "kick off" if Thom represents on their behalf. She has also made vile comments about other members of my family...I will not stand for that! So I'll call you out for what you are....a vindictive and callous nobody!
Why have I taken this to Facebook? Well because this has been going on for some time. Last year, my brother couldn't attend the parade at all after violent threats were made against them. These people hide behind their committee, and rule with iron fist - even if it's at the detriment of veterans...the VERY PEOPLE they are supposed to be supporting!
Let's call this what it is - unpatriotic, unjust, and downright disgusting. I ask that, if you are a patron of said establishment - you demand answers. I should add, Thom is not a unique case - there are numerous people who have been barred and bullied out by this coven of vicious, unpatriotic scum.
Please share this, as whilst it is a negative post, it needs to be shared that this sort of thing cannot stand from a British Legion Club!
These people fought to protect our nation, now they are having to fight to access an establishment that was made for them! Shame on you Holly, and all those at Melbourne British Legion!!
Remembering Cpl Russell Aston on his Birthday today.
Russell is one of the people that drive Help A Squaddie to help veterans in need and I'm sure his home for veterans will save many lives.
Happy Birthday Russell ❤❤

@donk48@HelpASquaddie Had a little giggle just about that @donk48 😂! On a serious note, you were an amazing help that day on locating the missing veteran. Thankyou for your support.
Volunteers from @HelpASquaddie rightly receive a lot of praise, there are children behind the volunteers who give up so much time with their parents who never complaining because they believe that veterans deserve more.
