AstroCamp Virginia is a hands on physical science, space, astronomy, outdoor adventure, STEM based year around residential camp for children ages 8-17.
Discovered 90 years ago, (Feb 18, 1930), we had no idea Pluto would look like this, let alone that we would take a space probe called New Horizons to get this close!

The mad scientist look is strong with this one… This Van De Graaf generator creates a strong charge on anything it can get its hands on, including hair! 😄
This nebula called the Red Spider Nebula, located some 3,000 light-years away in the constellation of Sagittarius. This nebula harbors 1 of the hottest stars known and its powerful stellar winds generate waves 62.4 billion miles high. #astrocampva#NASA#nebula Credit: #ESA
Throwback to a few beautiful Spitzer telescope images. It’s been studying the cosmos since 2003, & today it’s set to retire 😢It’s given us the first glimpses of exoplanets, and made important discoveries about comets, stars, and distant galaxies. Cheers! 💖🔭🌌

Why don’t cities have night sky views like AstroCamp? Because cities love lights. This creates “light pollution,” making it very hard to see faint objects (the same way it’s hard to see right looking at a really bright light). So, to see a night sky like this… get out of town!
Astronomers using NASA’s #Hubble Space Telescope have uncovered surprising new clues about a hefty, rapidly aging star whose behavior has never been seen before in our Milky Way galaxy. 🔭 🌎

Are brown dwarfs born like stars, as in this rendering, or do they form like planets orbiting another star? A study by researchers using data from NASA Spitzer Space Telescope has led to the preliminary conclusion that they are formed much like a star. #astrocampva
