@DivinelyDesined You fundamentally misunderstand mutations. Most mutations are net-neutral; they do nothing to enhance or reduce the survival of an organism. Some do reduce, but some enhance. Those that enhance tend to propagate, on average, making future generations with that mutation more fit.
