How does stuff actually fall into a black hole? It seems easy to do, but the reality is a lot trickier!
#ThisIsMyScience and I'm going to tell you all about it in 5 tweets for this year's @pintofscienceAU! #AtomsToGalaxies

What Do Accretion Disk Models Remember?
If simulations “remember” the conditions they started with, that could complicate the modeling of magnetized accretion disks around supermassive black holes. https://t.co/Vjil7z20W6

And the worst part is:
I paid like a bajillion dollars for these glasses, super exxy place, only for them to give me 0.00 SPH by accident
It was @specsavers who fixed it, and did easy twice the number of tests for 1/10th the price!
Been struggling with double vision for a few months now, getting increasingly bad to the point where I struggled to read
There was a typo in my prescription! A whole diopter difference. OD was shocked I put up with it as long as I have.
Now 2 weeks until new lenses! 😎
I desperately need a better way to volume render my data...
VisIt gives me the grey screen of death, and yt can't handle log-spaced meshes
I just wanna make pretty pictures dammit! 😭
Plus sharing a room with someone I don’t know well is a no-go: I need time to decompress. A lot of time. The cheaper graduate rooms are always shared, so I pay more for being disabled. It’s either that or I can’t go.
This makes conferences particularly hard for us!
Unpredictable sensory experiences (eg trying new food from a place you’ve never been before) are incredibly draining.
If you only have the energy to do that once in a week, what do you do for the other 20 meals?
I know people talk about disability tax, and tonight I'm thinking about the autism tax: Having to stock up on processed/pre-made food because you never know when you're not going to be able to eat a different cooked meal.
I was pretty deaf for a couple of months as a kid after rupturing both eardrums. Apparently should be an incredibly painful experience, but no one noticed the pain, they only noticed the hearing impairment. I didn't express my pain the way they expected a young child to.
I've found a lot of doctors (and nurses!) don't believe you if you're not performing your pain the same way an NT might.
It seriously delays treatment, even for physical issues that can be easily verified like a broken bone.
Doctor: ok so on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the worst pain you've ever felt, how much pain are you in?
Autistic person who mistakenly believes this is a sincere question & is having the worst pain they have ever felt: 10
Doctor: ...ok *typing in health records* DRUG ADDICT
This programme is incredibly harmful to those with ADHD diagnosis. Given the massive shame many of us carry from not being diagnosed as children the harm cannot be understated.
We've spent our whole lives thinking there was something *morally* wrong with us. So one-sided.
📺WATCH: It’s a day many said would never come.
But after decades of persistence, the state has finally been granted a licence into the @AFL.
This afternoon, Gill McLachlan declared the state would take its rightful place in the national competition and become team 19 in 2028

It's World #AutismAwarenessDay and as good a day as any to admit: I am #autistic!
I was identified back in 2019 and have spent the last ~3 years figuring out what that means for me. There is still some ways to go, but I'm ready now to be who I am publicly - an autistic person.
@permutedgravity I use a MacBook Pro (2019). Most of my heavy coding work is run on the supercomputer, but it easily handles all my test cases. A lot of the software in my field is written for Unix-like OS, and I like that mac is useable with little fuss
