Roselle, a yellow Labrador retriever, is still remembered as one of the most remarkable guide dogs of her time. On the morning of September 11, 2001, she quietly steered her blind handler, and a number of other people, down 78 floors of the North Tower of the World Trade Center, only minutes before the building came down.
Michael Hingson was at work that day on the 78th floor. Blind from birth, he had Roselle with him, as he did every day. When a sudden explosion slammed through the tower, the floor lurched and the windows filled with fire and falling debris. Evacuation could not wait.
Hingson already knew the building’s layout and emergency routes. He put his trust in Roselle and they started down.
The descent covered more than 1,460 steps through stairwells thick with smoke and the smell of jet fuel. Frightened coworkers fell in behind them. Some people froze. Near the 50th floor, panic began to spread. Hingson’s even voice and Roselle’s steady pace helped the group keep moving. Around here, Roselle would stop to give kisses to a lady having a panic attack.
At the lobby they were told wreckage and bodies were dropping outside. They cut through a neighboring building and took shelter in a subway station, where the air was clearer. Above them they could hear the towers collapsing. Roselle repeatedly stopped Hingson at unsafe spots and would not go forward until the path was clear. Those pauses protected the people with her.
In the days that followed, the two of them came to stand for more than survival. They became a public example of trust, composure, and resilience. In 2002 the American Kennel Club recognized Roselle for what she had done. She later developed health problems that were likely linked to the attacks, but she remained at Hingson’s side for another seven years.
Roselle was a very good girl.

"JUST STAY QUIET"

Those were the words Mohamed Atta broadcast from the cockpit of American Airlines Flight 11 on September 11, 2001 as he and the other Islamic hijackers steered the plane toward the North Tower.

“Nobody move. Everything will be okay. If you try to make any moves, you’ll endanger yourself and the airplane. Just stay quiet.”

They counted on silence. They got it. Minutes later that plane slammed into the World Trade Center.

Then came Flight 93. Passengers learned what was happening. They did not stay quiet. They said “Let’s roll.” They fought. The plane went down in a Pennsylvania field instead of the Capitol or the White House. Those passengers saved lives because they refused the terrorists’ instruction.

That is the lesson. The only hijacked plane that missed its target was the one where Americans did not stay silent.

The same tactic is used today. Do not name the ideology. Do not speak. Do not resist. Stay quiet while the civilizational threat continues.

If we want to honor the 2,977 murdered and the thousands injured, we do not obey the hijacker. We name what drove them: Islam. An ideology that still seeks to impose itself on free people.

Do not stay quiet. Use your voice. Never stop exposing it.

Never forget. Never submit.
