@yayfreire No unions here unfortunately. That's not really a Texas thing. Having worked previously in a unionized position I can say that this admin move would be hard to pull off in a unionized environment

For the past 5 years I have worked my tail off to get tenure. I just submitted my packet this fall and I'm now told by my university that it doesn't matter. Librarians shouldn't have tenure.

I'm a reasonably intelligent person. I could have done a lot of other things. I am so tired of fighting this battle trying to prove why librarians matter and the value they provide. I'm so sick of trying to legitimize my profession.

This is insulting, a betrayal, and a complete lack of respect for the work that librarians do. I WANTED to become a librarian because I believed in the profession and my ability to help others navigate information.

The way this addresses libraries is a joke. Like they are doing them a favor when really they are stripping faculty of tenure and disbanding an outstanding organization. Banks clearly has no real understanding of what libraries are and what faculty librarians do. Shameful.
