I have a self deprecating sense of humor, but I have recently discovered that you cannot always be that way around some people. They will use it as a backhanded way to disrespect, sneer, ridicule, and mock you.

When do we finally move past judging people by their looks?

Seriously, who the hell gave anyone the right to ridicule another human being over their appearance?

Their weight. Their face. Their teeth. Their hair. Their age.

NONE OF IT determines their worth.

You don’t have to find someone attractive to treat them with dignity.

And if humiliating someone over something as personal as their appearance makes you feel superior, perhaps it’s your character that needs a makeover.

Kindness isn’t weakness. Cruelty isn’t comedy.

As I was tying my tie for my mother-in-law’s memorial service today, I was reminded of my dad teaching me how to tie a tie many long years ago. It took me 3 times to get it perfect. May dad was particular about how the knot looked and the length. As I finished and walked upstairs, my son was tying the perfect tie too. I am happy to report Dad that I have passed that trait on to the next generation.
