Ontario police can apparently use spyware powerful enough to remotely take over smartphones and they’re fighting to keep the details secret from the public.
Meanwhile, Doug Ford weakened Ontario’s Freedom of Information system, making it harder for journalists and citizens to get transparency from government.
So ordinary people are expected to live under increasing surveillance, but when it comes to political power, backroom deals, deleted records, Greenbelt scandals, private meetings, and government accountability, suddenly everything is “confidential.”
If these extraordinary powers exist, where is the oversight? Where is the transparency? And why does accountability seem to apply more to citizens than to politicians?
A little girl asks her father, “Daddy, why don’t I have a little sister?”
Trying to be funny, he says, “You do have a little sister.”
“I do?” she asks.
“Sure,” he says. “But every time you walk in the front door, she walks out the back door.”
“Oh, I see!” the little girl says. “You mean she’s like my other daddy.”
Anybody else noticing some odd throttling of content perhaps?
