I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain. - James Baldwin
Dan Aykroyd & Eddie Murphy are two complete strangers TRADING PLACES ☹️😁
Part of our NEW YEAR, NEW ME series Wednesday 1/14 at Nitehawk Prospect Park with an intro by @at_howard.
For nearly a decade in public (and perhaps in private) Trump has insisted that he has inherited intellectual superiority from an uncle who went to MIT.
Trump appears to be unraveling live on stage
“When I say insane asylums, and then I say, Doctor Hannibal Lecter, does anybody know? They go crazy. They say, oh, he brings up these names out of— Well, that's genius. Right. Doctor Hannibal Lecter. There's nobody worse than him. Silence of the Lambs. Who the hell else would even remember that? I have a great memory, but they always hit me. I don't bring it up too much because they have to take such a— he brought up Hannibal Lecter. What does that have to do with this? What is it? It has everything to do with it, right? He was… So I've done something for you for you that I haven't done in 20 speeches. I brought up Doctor Hannibal Lecter and we're allowing him, you watch, you watch these fake people will say again, he brought up Hannibal Lecter has absolutely nothing to do. You know I do the weave, right? The weave. It's genius. You bring up Hannibal Lecter, you mention insane asylum. Hannibal Lecter. You go out, no. There'll be a time in life where the weave won't finish properly at the bottom and then we can talk. But right now it's pure genius. Hey, I have an uncle, my uncle, Uncle John, my father's brother, 41 years at MIT, longest serving professor has so many degrees, he didn't know what the hell to do with them all in the most complicated. I understand a lot of this stuff, you know, I believe in that. Like, I mean, Jack Nicklaus is not gonna produce a bad golfer. Right. You know, that's the way it works. It's just one of those things and it's in the family and it's whatever”
I'm shocked the guy who thought Dean Phillips would win Michigan finds @elonmusk's propaganda video credible
Here are some arguments, Bill:
1) It is illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections, and they don't, because you need a license or SSN to register
2) All mail-in ballots are verified in every state
3) 95% of noncitizen growth went to red states since 2019 (Cato)
4) TX, FL, NC (red) gained the most House seats in the 2020 Census; CA, IL, NY (blue) lost the most.
5) If non-citizens weren't counted in the Census, TX, FL, and CA would each lose 1 seat; AL, MN, OH would each gain 1 (Pew)
6) Demographics have not been destiny for Democrats - the party's advantage with voters of color is at its lowest point in 60 years, driven by a rightward shift among Latinos (Axios)
7) If Biden and Democrats believed the idiotic assertion that illegal immigration would help their party, the President probably wouldn't have deported more undocumented immigrants than Trump did, and he probably wouldn't be campaigning on a conservative Republican's bill that would temporarily shut down the border.
You can’t overstate the audacity of a white man born in apartheid South Africa who inherited his wealth, status & privilege —whose entire life has been one big racial preference — lecturing about the perils and fundamental unfairness of affirmative action. https://t.co/TuCvPHhjB4
There is no cavalry coming. No miracle solution. No saviors.
In the end, we, the American people - not any of our institutions - have to save our democracy by voting in defense of that democracy this fall.
We are the cavalry. The responsibility is ours.
I wonder if this time next year when Ukraine has fallen and the filibuster has been eliminated so that a national abortion ban can pass if we’ll still be talking about how Joe Biden was too old.
At least once a month I think about the time Trump implied that Putin uses the n-word in reference to Obama and then seconds later said “I hope he likes me.”
Donald Trump regularly accuses prominent black women of being ‘racist’ without evidence, presumably against white men like himself. This projection on his part should not go as unchallenged or unnoticed as it routinely does.
Trump is the ultimate candidate of the 'nothing matters' ethos that has sadly infected so much of our populace. It has an appeal -- who wouldn't want to not care about anyone or anything (save for themselves) from time to time. But some of us know all too well that we must care.
Call me old fashioned. But I recall a time when if you said you hoped the economy failed, said you'd be a dictator on day 1, and promised to jail your opponent if elected (again) it would have mean the end of a presidential run, not the moment it's peaking. And yet, here we are.
Please check out this piece I produced for The New Yorker Radio Hour about my father. Really proud of this one. "Christmas in Tehran: Bringing the Holidays to Hostages" https://t.co/aOcUljYJ5Y via @NewYorker
